You know, we like shitting on RWBY here, and it definitely warrants that with a ton of amateurish and bizzarely nonsensical writing decisions. But I've been thinking recently and I gotta give credit where credit is due. As far as Western cartoon genki girl protagonists go, Ruby is pretty good. Unlike Star or Mabel or pink horse on a couple of occasions, she's not obnoxious, not attention-whoring, doesn't make other people's lives worse and doesn't demand the whole world bow to her egoitistic whims. She's not just loud and wacky all the time, she can be quiet and/or serious. And I don't think it's just because RWBY took a more serious turn, everything I'm noticing was the case even early on, when it was just a SoL comedy. I guess it's because Monty understood that appealing and likeable personalities, even if simple (and Ruby is fairly simple, more often than not lacking in any sort of internal conflict), shouldn't be completely one-note.
You know, we like shitting on RWBY here...
Ruby’s barely even a character in her own show.
That's mostly a problem in V4 and 5.
Would fuck her
I mean, she can get quite obnoxious during those screeching fangirl gag moments, but other than that I agree.
Also just got up to date with the latest volume, and I can't believe how dirty they did Ironwood. Poor guy can't catch a break, and he'll go down as a monster by history. Just let Moby Dickk put him out of his misery before they accuse him of raping puppies or something.
Ironwood is a white, militarist, heterosexual male in modern animation. His fate was sealed long ago.
I hated how they never flesh out the concepts they introduce into the world and just add new stuff.
>So we have dust and grim
>Screw that now let’s focus of this maiden thing we never meantioned before.
>Okay I know we hyped up the maiden stuff but actually there’s these things called relics and-
It’s like the writers have adhd when it comes to worldbuilding. The rest of the show feels the same way with all the new characters they introduce and don’t do anything with. At least the porn’s pretty alright.
That's because the actual creator of this IP is dead and his vision died with him. Now it's just RT's cash cow.
The only thing keeping this shitshow alive are the lonely otakus and weebs.
I thought the big dad beard would protect him. I was naive.
I thought weebs hated it for not being real anime?
Pretty much, yeah. Shame, too, since the first 2 volumes, the ones Monty himself actually worked on, were actually pretty good.
A beard on a military man is a sign of cis male oppression in the eyes of brain damaged Tumblrfags, if anything it made him an even bigger target.
Ruby's futa cock!
Ruby isn't the main character, Ozpin is. No one of importance in the show even know who she is and they wrote themselves into a corner with her Silver Eyes.
Why does no one know who they are? Was the vytal tournament not a big deal to anyone outside the huntsman academies?
The middle school weebs adore RWBY.
The only thing people remember from the Vytal Tournament is Pyrrha turning Penny into quarters.
This is your brain on Zig Forums.
Ruby's not a bad character at all. Her roast of Weiss while talking to Penny in S3 is the single best line of the entire show.
I'll never understand the sentiment that V1 and V2 were good. With all due respect to the deceased, they were absolutely generic cookie-cutter anime battle academy tropes filtered through a Western looking glass and regurgitated in extremely low-budget form. V3 was the first time the show told anything approaching a compelling story because it stopped simply mindlessly indulging in puddle-deep anime tropes and actually started creating some stakes, and also started looking a little better because they had more of a budget. RWBY has never been worse than V1 and V2.
>No one of importance in the show even know who she is
Ozpin knows
Salem knows
Ironwood knows
The main cast knows
The villains know (outside of maybe Watts and Hazel)
Who does that leave, Raven?
>It’s like the writers have adhd
Miles, of the writers, actual does have adhd and takes medicine for it.
>Who does that leave, Raven?
But she does too.
V1-V2 were nothing but fight animations with a crappy paintjob of a "story" so they could market it as a show.
Yeah, exactly. So why the fuck are so many people nostalgic for it? Even if you think V3-V7 are terrible, V1-V2 make the later seasons look like Dostoevsky.
Beats me, but my guess is that those people prefer the simplicity, even if it comes with a nonsensical setting and failure of storytelling, rather than the more complicated, plothole-ridden story that happened when the writers decided to get their shit together.
That, or perhaps we have to face the fact that RWBY's been a thing for long enough to create nostalgia.
Some weebs dislike shows like RWBY and Avatar. Causal fans who like both cartoons and anime and kids who are into the anime look are more likely to watch RWBY.
>Ozpin knows
Of course a chess player would know who his pawn is.
>Salem knows
And she does not care. If the antagonist doesn't care about the protagonist, you have a problem.
>Ironwood knows
He just sees Ruby as another student Ozpin brought along. Yang and Weiss are more important to Ironwood than Ruby
>The main cast knows
They're aimless and meaningless in the main scheme of things. They're just bullets Ozpin, who I remind you is the real main character, aims at Salem's plans to foil them
>The villains know (outside of maybe Watts and Hazel)
None of them care about Ruby besides Cinder and Cinder is worse than Ruby as a character. Tyrian has eyes on Jaune, Hazel is focused on Ozpin, and Watts is just doing what he does for the lulz. Neo cares, but isn't really a character, just a walking cool moment to pick up fan interest.
>Who does that leave, Raven?
Raven doesn't matter to the story anymore. The relics matter, the maidens are just keys.
Kamen Rider Mach is just Yang but done right
I remember when it first came out people were willing to look past the flaws since it was mostly Monty's passion project, not something to take seriously. I think that's still the case today when people regard the early volumes
Ruby literally carries all of the negative character traits of the genocidal (final) villain. She just violent fought for the right to doom an entire country to death during her last episode. What Rose coloured glasses are you wearing to think she's a good person?
The only thing your post proves is that in the grand scheme of things Ozpin and Salem have been more important than Ruby and pretty much any other human. Which was done intentionally, and is exactly what RWBY is trying to change.
Stop feigning outrage, I know for a fact you do not get mad at any other instance of "we will fight to the end" trope in fiction.
