But it's aimless conflict, it doesn't resolve itself, it doesn't help the characters grow, it's just "oh, shit, there's two Annies' now!"

My point isn't that two Annies' is inherently bad, it's that it's not being utilized well.

Annie is like her mother. Eventually she needs to die so that her spirit can pass on to her daughter.

If there's two Annies then one Annie can die while the 2nd goes on crazy adventures. Makes sense.

And rightfully so.

I hope they both die

It already has. The Annies had to learn to come to terms with each other and themselves. Plus they're learning new dynamics in their relationship with their father. And now it's doing the same with Kat.

I'm still hoping both the Annies beat up Paz at some point. Just imagine if Forest annie got Paz in a headlock and Court Annie repeatedly punched her in the face and head, ha ha.

I think having two Annies was a good idea, it gives her a "deal with yourself" arc that gets at how dualistic her personality has been for years

First off, because they became friends way too quickly. There was hardly any on-stage conflict between the two, even though that's an extremely important part of this
Secondly because he doesn't seem to take much consideration into the two of them having differing personalities. meaning the duality aspect is also lost.

They're essentially just twins that go everywhere together and agree on everything, but dress differently.
Only for plot reasons are they different. This is probably how Tom will "solve" problems of Annie becoming a psychopomp, or dying after giving birth.
