Avatar on Netflix

How does it hold up, Zig Forums?
The fan remaster looks better than this.

Is this a screenshot? It kinda reminds me of the comics

When did Avatar come to Netflix? :-O

just now

I can’t find it when I go there. Are you I’m Europe?

no, US

No, you idiot.

Are there plans to add The Legend of Korra too?

I kinda want them to, so we can see how few people care in comparison. On the other hand i don't want Bryke to get royalties.

you're the dumbest namefag

ATLA is definitely an above average cartoon, but I don’t like how it’s been elevated to the status of “the Godfather of western animation”.
Yeah it’s good but it’s not some masterpiece of storytelling. Looking back at it now a lot of the comedy makes me cringe and the sexism stuff is way too hamfisted (and it’s only gonna get worse in a modern adaptation). Yes it’s a good show, but it IS a children’s show, hence why it pulls its punches about showing the true extent of the atrocities committed in war.
I rewatched a few episodes as an adult (I’m currently 27) and the childishness of the tone was very apparent. Which is fine, it’s for kids. But grown adults really need to stop latching onto kids media, it’s not healthy to keep consuming these simplistic stories with a limited view of the world. (Looking at you Potterheads)

What do you mean? There are multiple versions of avatar? Why would anyone change what is already perfect?

I disagree
It's genius storytelling, the comedy is cute, and I'm not even sure what you're referring to with "sexism"

Avatar's been under Viacom's lock and key for some reason. Not even the soundtrack is available despite being one of the most iconic soundtracks ever made.
The series only got a blu-ray remaster two years ago.
But there was a fan remaster that came out three years ago and it looks so much fucking better.

>the sexism stuff is way too hamfisted
There's only a handful of examples I can think of where it's hamfisted. The first episode where Katara calls Sokka sexist, Kyoshi's Island and I'd argue even though it's annoying it's done pretty tastefully, and the Waterbending Master which I agree isn't as great because of that aspect, wouldn't really mark it as a flaw against the show, though.

If Netflix buys Viacom, then CBSAllAccess' library (Which as the first two seasons of Korra) would be fused with Netflix's. So potentially, yeah.

What do these "remasters" change?
And how can you lock something that was already made available? You can't just call back all OSTs and take down ever avatar video. Fuck it's clear they don't even give a shit about Avatar anyway... Korra made that much clear. Aaron Ehasz created Avatar and I won't respect the demands of the people who killed it.

You can't improve something that's perfect

They're not George Lucas Special Editions, if that's what you're wondering. What the Fan Remaster does is it cleaned up a lot of the image from the DVD release, much like the Star Wars Despecialized Edition.

This but without sexualising Azula, the nasty bitch

one hair out of place

has a show this successful ever been so hated by its own creators. its like avatar is the red headed step child they wish was never born

Because ATLA and Korra aren’t like any other Nick cartoons. The viewership skews much older (to the point where they moved Korra online-only because tv viewer numbers were so low), and they can’t seem to find a way to successfully merchandise the IP for that demographic. It was never syndicated (afaik) and it’s much harder to rerun serialized shows because you can’t just air any random episode like you can with Spongebob.
Ben 10 is a bit similar in that it’s aalso a serialized action cartoon, but it sold a boatload of action figures which kept it in the black. ATLA’s toyline didn’t do very well (because female characters made up about half the cast yet Mattel refused to include any of them in the toyline) and Korra never got any toys at all.

kataras whole character is basically sexism victim.

i normally dont buy crap from fandoms but i would actually splurge on a really good 1/6th scale hot toy for my favorite character

There’s a line of collector action figures (with elemental effect parts) from Diamond Select that includes Aang, Katara and Zuko.
Korra has a few statues (but nothing articulated); Korra herself, Lin Beifong, and Korra and Asami sitting in the spirit world holding hands. (is that really all people care about in LoK anymore? No one ever released anything like that for Aang and Katara)

>Korra and Asami sitting in the spirit world holding hands
Who would pay $300+ for this shit

but i dont want any of those characters.
yet they are the only ones who ever get anything.

what if viacom gets bought out by disney?
