In my opinion, the worst thing you can say about Steven Universe is that it came out too early in the 2010s. We live in uncertain times, and in these times we need a silver lining, a beacon of hope, a light in the darkness, etc., and I believe that Steven could have been that light. It was a series about peace, understanding, unity, and most importantly, love. It taught us to love ourselves, as well as to love others, no matter how different we might be, and it taught us that no matter how bad things get, love and human decency will prevail. This is what we need in these trying times, something to remind us that we have to capacity to be truly great people and to turn our lives around.

we're still going on about this? Why does everyone here seem to miss the point of SU as a whole. It's not that Steven redeemed the Diamonds is what makes it's messages powerful, but the IDEA that someone can redeem even the cruelest of dictators is. It may not be possible in realms of the real world right now, but it gives us hope that somewhere down line, it could. THAT'S what makes it powerful, and that's the point y'all keep missing.

Messages dont save a show. If the writing is bad then the message is moot. so redeeming dictators in one day is not only lazy writing, but detrimental.

I like that Steven doesn't use violence to solve conflicts, but the only reason the diamonds listened to him was because of his gem. If they hadn't seen him as 'Pink', they would never have given him a second thought or changed their perspective. So, sure, you can change the mind of someone and make them stop doing awful war crimes, but if they don't perceive you as their long-lost and beloved family member, you're fucked.

Yeah I'm surprised how people keep ignoring this. Well I'm not really surprised cause it's clear people are just screeching at TRANNY ROCKS but the show is never a hate letter, not even to bigots. It taught to try to reach racist people instead of just lashing against them, the meanest it has been it was against feminist allies, and even then the morale of the episode was that you need to show them feminism isn't about them. Hell, it's even forgiving with transphobes (Blue Diamond, who keeps misgendering Steven or making fun of Garnet calling herself a Garnet).
