Would the entire story have been avoided if they had just invited Maleficent?

Would the entire story have been avoided if they had just invited Maleficent?

The original, maybe.
The remake, no.

The remake did Flora, Fauna and Meriwether dirty

>...And my gift to the child will be...Me, as her tutor.
>M-M-Maleficent there's no need to put your-
>Oh, nonsense, it is no trouble at all...Unless you are refusing my gift?
>N-no! Of course not.
>*years pass*
>Remember, it's two eyes of newt for this potion.
>Isn't Tuesday supposed to be history lessons?

>Aurora learning magic from Maleficent

This would be cool as hell. One thing I've wanted for the longest time is a Sleeping Beauty AU where Flora, Fauna, and Meriwether teach Aurora magic as a way of defending herself. But one where Mally never curses her and instead tutors her in the dark arts is just as good.

Yes. Remember, Maleficent is a faerie, and faeries are all about politeness and formality. All she wanted was to be invited, but not only did they not invite her, they insulted her when she did show up.
If they HAD invited her, she'd probably have given the princess a really cool powerful gift as well.

If they had invited her she likely never would have even turned up, or like give her a gift that's a real monkey's paw.

Then there's a find of push/pull for Aurora between the fae.

I think she wouldn't have showed up at all but got angry more so from the lack of respect. Fae folk are assholes like that.

Maleficent isn't just a fairy, she's a DARK fairy. The other three are good fairies, but she is not. Her giving a gift that turns around and bites the king and queen in the ass in the long-term would be very in-character for the sort of fae she is. And, actually, gifting Aurora skill in the dark arts might fit the bill. That's something that would probably bring the whole kingdom into ruin in the long run.

Probably not.
She just seemed to be looking for an excuse to fuck everybody over.

Fair Folk are divided into Seelie and Unseelie, neither of which is inherently good or evil

>aurora's still taken out to the woods, but rather than to hide its so her dark magic tendencies don't draw ire on the devout kingdom
>the whole time flora, fauna, and meriwether are tutoring her in good magic to try and counteract it

Not sure if I prefer that or Maleficent taking an active role in it. Would definitely be more fun in terms of Maleficent's gloating, especially if Aurora actually likes spending time with Maleficent.

>good fae
>evil fae
no such thing.

>FFM try their hardest to keep Mally from knowing where Aurora is
>Mally finds out anyway
>comes upon Aurora in the woods one day
>disguises herself as a kindly old woman
>promises to teach Aurora things the good fairies aren't teaching her
>uses Aurora's natural curiosity to snare her
>Aurora agrees to regularly meet with her

>Would the entire story have been avoided if they had just invited Maleficent?
Yes. There is no real difference between maleifcent and the other fey, they would have done the same shit if they hadn't been invited.
No such thing as a "good" fairy.
In the original they literally just don't invite her because they don't have enough gold cuttlery for her

Either that or just appears as herself.
>You're not afraid of faeries, are you, my dear?
Then it can be implied that Maleficent's gift to her in the dark arts kind of "overrides" the natural wariness that one should feel in the presence of someone so obviously up to no good.

I realize that real fairies aren't either good or evil, but the movie itself does sort of use that framework. I'm not sure there are any historical accounts of real fairies being anywhere near as nice as Flora, Fauna, or Meriwether.

Nah, it's like this guy said Even if they had invited her, Maleficent would have found something else to curse their child for. Some obscure, ridiculous thing that nobody even realized would have set her off, fae are assholes like that. "Oh, you only have red roses in your garden, guess I'll have to turn your gardener into a tree. You know the rules." Fucking asshole fairies.

Yeah, that's probably better. That way everyone's cards are on the table.

I assume Maleficent's long-term plan is to turn Aurora against the "normal" inhabitants of the kingdom, even against her own parents. Make her think that, even though her magic is a part of her, they'll never accept someone who practices witchcraft and devilry. Fill her heart with fear, and then with hate, for the very kingdom of which she's the princess.

Nonono! Even better! A little dumpy Maleficent that matches the design of the other three.

>real fairies

>>You're not afraid of faeries, are you, my dear?

>Mally makes a version of herself that looks like Flora, Fauna, and Meriwether

This is a good idea. It's a shape Aurora is already used to trusting.

It could even be that the gift itself makes Aurora more likely to go with her, not see Maleficent and her promises as something to be wary of, but rather a fulfilment of something she had always felt. She always knew that the magic she was being taught wasn't quite "right" for her, and here comes this being who is exactly what she thought a powerful faerie should be like, and the magic she teaches! It is just as she always felt was missing!

Plus it's just really funny.

Of course not. She's evil. EVIL. She would have fucked them over for whatever petty nonsense crossed her mind, like the food's too cold or the drapes aren't the right color.

Bingo. It's Maleficent's long con. This was what she planned from the beginning.

>Even if they had invited her, Maleficent would have found something else to curse their child for.
Not necessarily. If properly invited a fairy might have been a perfectly amicable guest.
But in the long-run? You let a fairy in your house. Its not going to stop with those one-time gifts. The other three didn't leave either, neither would she have.

This. I'm tired of fujoshits trying to make Maleficent some sort of victim.

>of fujoshits
Why would fujoshi be invested in Maleficent?
I don't think you know what that word means.

IIRC in the original telling all the faeries needed to be served on special golden plateware. They were short on one set and opted to not invite her, she finds out and gets pissy because not invited. Make no mistake, Fae are assholes and the king was probably banking on the fact that snubbing the one major Fae witch was balanced out by making the group of "good" Fae happy.

But this thread isn't about that at all, bur rather Maleficent corrupting Aurora from the moment she's born.

And it gets even better when you remember that Maleficent did nothing manipulative from that meeting. The groundwork was already laid. All she really had to do was be there, which is itself another part of the long game.

I think that's why I sort of like so much. It paints Maleficent as being oh-so kind and charitable, but everyone knows she's fucking them over, and she knows they know, and they know that she knows that they know, but they can't do a fucking thing about it.

>She walks in
>Everybody breathes in, a little tense
>She glides across the floor to the ornate cradle
>She looks down at the tiny pink princess wrapped in white silk
>The cold, haughty face breaks into a thin smile of approval
>The pale hand rises
"Well-wished, little princess. I bestow upon you the wisdom to recognize your enemies."
>She glides out of the room to the bar and orders a dirty martini

>Everybody breathes a sigh of relief

Yes.
