No

no shes an earth bender iirc

No she’s blind, this bitch can’t even put up a poster by herself.

She's very powerful and doesn't have a strong character arc but she has very noticeable weaknesses and flaws both as a fighter and as a person. I don't think many people would consider her a sue.

No, in the few occasions where her ground-sensing shit was useless, she was fucked.

She's also kind of a slut

Completely vulnerable to attacks from the sky, all anyone has to do in order to beat her is jump into the air.

>Difficult relationship with her parents
>Is blind, and despite her seismic sense, some things she really can't see
>Insecure about certain things
I hate that people really have no clue what Mary Sue means

for god's sake not every strong female character is a Mary Sue.
A Mary Sue is a self insert that is perfect in every way, can do no wrong and everyone loves.

he only mary sue thing shes done is invent metal bending

"Mary Sue" implies a character who is flawless, never needs help, and is always in the right. Toph lost battles plenty of times, makes the gang argue and had to apologize that one time. She wants to be independent, but can't because of her age and blindness

Is OP a dumbass?

Everything else in the thread aside, she's obviously not a Mary Sue becuase she gets fuck all focus. After her three initial episodes she's always there in supporting roles, mostly cleaning up fodder. The only times this wasn't the case was this one Ba Sing Se segment with Katara (so like three minutes), C plot in "The Guru" when she learns metalbending and that one season 3 episodes (again shared with Katara). Iroh and Azula are more like main characters than her.

Only main characters can be that

No, because she is barely even a relevant character. How can she be a mary sue if the writers don't even like her that much? It's Katara who is the writers pet girl, brykes boner for her is well known and is obvious even just watching the show

I don't think Toph is a mary sue at all I think she's just a meme character who is charming and isn't meant to have serious focus.

However, simply having flaws doesn't mean anything. Being "insecure" for example isn't a good example of a flaw if its only used to show Toph being cute.

part of being a mary sue is also in how other characters act around the mary sue in question, and the rest of the cast doesn't immediately adore toph and think she's the most beautiful creature they've ever seen, like they would if she were actually a sue

toph is hardly a character

>However, simply having flaws doesn't mean anything. Being "insecure" for example isn't a good example of a flaw if its only used to show Toph being cute.
Her insecurity almost leads to breaking the team altogether.

>Literally gets OHKO'd by the main character in her debut
>Completely useless in combat in certain scenarios
>Regularly shown to have character flaws
>Durr is she a Mary Sue

All of team avatar is full of prodigy children with insane growth rate

is sokka a mary sue for learning the entirety of swordfighting in like a week?
main characters in fiction are OP by nature, if they were losers we wouldn't care about them

>is sokka a mary sue for learning the entirety of swordfighting in like a week?
To be fair, Sokka never got to do anything with his space sword while Katara and Toph became the best benders of their element in the entire world.

>the entirety of swordfighting
He really didn't. He lost to Piandao.
Also there are characters out there that are losers that just rise to the one point that will make them triumph and that aren't op at all.

Only katara had an insane growth rate, and besides sokka (which is more believable, and he never became that good in the show) she was the only one starting out bad

for the last time people, being unreasonably overskilled is not the only trait that makes a character a mary sue

wasting a good toph thread on this shit I see

Sokka, already had experience fighting with a club and he did not master the skill in the week, that’s why he lost his space sword stupid.

Yes, shes an 11-12 year old girl who is the most powerful earthbender in the world who is also extra special because shes blind and she creates metal bending a unheard of bending ability out of nowhere just because shes so good.
