What are his flaws?
What are his flaws?
a literal rock makes him weaker than me
shy, lonely due to not being human, depressed, kinda goofy
His Superman personality is mostly fake.
He's really emotional.
too popular
people thinking he's too overpowered
people thinking he acts like a god like in the live action movies
As powerful as he is, people think of him as even more powerful, and it breaks his heart that he can't live up to their expectations; has a tendency to run himself ragged trying to live up to his own legend.
Has a jealous streak, and tends to let his feelings for Lois or other love interests cloud his judgment.
Naturally naive and trusting, wants to believe the best in people even when they don't deserve it. Easy to trick if you can appeal to his sympathy.
Takes a dim view on more underhanded methods of vigilantism, even if it's all someone that isn't a living god is capable of to get the job done. Causes clashes with other heroes who think he doesn't understand them.
Has a few villains in particular who REALLY push is buttons and cause him to make brash and even stupid decisions because he's determined to do whatever it takes to put them behind bars.
Characters flaws you fucking idiot, not flaws in people's perception of him
and the new DC animated movies didn't helped...
>a exceedingly rare space meteorite that is only as plentiful as it is in places like the DC comics and, even worse, Smallville, because of Lazy Writers Syndrome™
>Characters flaws you fucking idiot, not flaws in people's perception of him
it reaches a point that those perceptions bleed into the media itself dumbass
The entire weight of the world on his shoulders. People expect miracles from Clark, but he can't be everywhere or fix every problem. They constantly look to him for guidance, but he sure as hell doesn't have all the answers. All he wants to do is help out when he can, be like everyone else, but the world puts him on a pedestal
I think it varies based on the era. Golden Age Superman was cocky and arrogant, Silver Age Superman was a bit of a control freak, Post-Crisis Superman dealt the most with insecurity about both his identity (Kryptonian vs Earthling) and his inability to actually save everyone like people expect him to, and (from what little I've seen of him) N52 Superman seemed very brash and inexperienced.
He also sometimes deals with the consequences of having a mild mannered dork as a human identity, like the way that Lois Lane will often only love his Superman persona and brush off Clark Kent. This one will usually be dealt with at some point, though, when he gets into a relationship with Lois and inevitably reveals the truth to her. I get that this one gets a bit tired after a while, but I honestly wish more writers would lean into it a bit more heavily.
Cursed to always feel some form of isolation, what few members of his species survived are insane, trying to kill him, or trying to fuck him. What few humans he's really close to see him as a god or a potential threat.
Desires to be human and be considered an equal to his fellow man, instead of them thinking they're inferior or hating/fearing him because he's superior.
Simple-minded, in that he's smart but in general he prefers to find a simple solution, less of a planner and more an improviser.
Constantly holding himself back because he can't stand the above, plus doesn't want to hurt anybody, usually this backfires and he ends up getting hurt by surprise or getting Innocents hurt when he could have easily stopped a number of threats.
An idealist to a fault, assumes the best in people for the most part. Again, often to his own punishment.
His standards might put him at odds with other heroes and it might make him seem unempathetic at times. See: His reaction to Wonder Woman killing Max Lord to save him or his stance on brainwashing supervillains that learn his identity. Also his willingness to trust in the goodness of people can be exploited. He isn't naive as he has seen the bad side of humanity as well, he just has too much experience for that, but being a standard of hope also implies assuming those risks and facing their consequences. Also because of his powers he is a bit reclusive. Like he's an excellent public speaker and incredibly charismatic but because of his upbringing he struggles to open up to other people. His circle of friends has always been small. Is a weakness that he can overcome but a weakness nevertheless
Also he really struggles in situations that require for him to act hostile, that "good cop/bad cop" short from Justice League action illustrates it correctly
Being the property of a conglomerate, as opposed to a character written by one person or team.
I can't speak for Marvel, but DC characters are just toys. DC treats them with the same respect as kids playing with action figures. Continuity is an illusion in DC especially, designed to milk money from your pockets while giving you vapid garbage in return. Only idiots would continue to support a 100 year old entertainment industry geared towards collectors and nostalgia.
DC and Marvel were always run focused you slowpoke, each run it's their own writer story sharing the same universe
>Continuity is an illusion in DC especially
Reboots and retcons happens to almost every single long running franchise, being the big company ones like Spider-Man or smaller teams like JoJo.
The rest of the flaws listed here sound all well and good, but is "too nice for his own good" really valid? Does Supes struggle with that fact? When someone's too nice for their own good, the guy that looks bad is the guy that takes advantage of that fact, not the guy that's too nice. I dunno, I don't think I can buy it as a flaw since it's more like the world should be less cynical and rise to Superman's standard rather than Superman having to change and stop being naive.
Golden Age Superman: Cocky and headstrong. He’s very passionate but still puts the safety of the innocent over beating the bad guys. Thus, he’s a very exploitable character.
Silver Age Superman: Is overbearing and afraid of commitment. Dude is more of a police-man than a vigilante, and that puts him at odds with moral grays.
Bronze Age Superman: Too self-centered, ponders too much on the moral ramifications on what he does and all he does is alienate himself from other people. Also, according to Elliot S Maggin, it’s hard for him to discern when the people around him are contributing to the plate, because it’s so easy for him in turn.
Post-Crisis Superman: Incredibly insecure. He has a complex where he always doubts himself at every turn, and tends to be exploited because of it. He obsesses a lot about his own “humanity” because the idea that he’s an alien genuinely hurts him.
New 52 Superman: Is a rookie, has not guidance from anyone and is essentially trying to vent it out. His immaturity is something he grows out of, but his inexperience never went away.
Sometimes being "too nice" can stop you from achieving your objectives. It's definetly a flaw of character
All the flaws ITT sound like someone pulled them out of their asses.
You say this like I couldn't kill you with a literal rock
How is Golden Age Superman being too cocky an asspull?
Also that rock gives you cancer
he's an unrelatable god. that's why batman is way more popular and the gap continues to get bigger.
I wish more villains are like Tweed. My man's not about to give up.
it's not his OP-ness that makes superman unrelatable, it's his earnestedness and niceness.
Superman is hard to write for. He clashes with the pessimism and cynicism of the modern age. That's why recent attempts have been variants on the "injustice" version.
He can't save everyone
>he's an unrelatable god. that's why batman is way more popular
You just confirmed that you never read Superman comics in your life.
Superman as more relatable than Batman. That's the case since Post-Crisis
I'm mean how the fuck you can be relatable to Bruce Wayne or Batman. It's pure power fantasy
>I don't read comics so I don't believe in you!
get the fuck out
>He can't save everyone
And he shouldn't.
He should save only the honest american in his country, but only from disaster they can't fix alone
>Early golden age depiction of Superman is true for entire golden age
These are the same people who call silver age Superman a dick or controlling because they saw a few silver age covers.
It has been known that Superfags don't actually read comics and just read blogs and comfy Superman panels.
He has the ability to instill great fear
being put at the focus of a huge multiverse because he made dc the most money decades ago
>It has been known that MY STATEMENTS ARE FACTS
Hi Laddefag.
Nice strawman.
