if cartoon designs are simplified for easier animation then why do most cartoons now consist of characters talking with minimal movement over a static background ?
If cartoon designs are simplified for easier animation then why do most cartoons now consist of characters talking with...
Because every cartoon made after the 2000 is bullshit
better question is, if they're gonna do THAT.... why not have at least have the designs be interesting and complex?
one or the other
School gave children a fetish for Microsoft slideshows. All animation will eventually compound into this, the most holy form of images next to clip art!
cause animation is expensive
Animation was better before, when it would have been very expensive.
Why is it worse now?
It's what they do with anime.
I word: unionization
animation is expensive and americans continue to believe animation is for toddlers so why bother investing on something to entertain children when youtube can do it for free?
as long as americans continue to treat animation as something jut for children western animation will never improve and always get simplify to the point of having cartoon with circles and squares
Animation was considered for adults in the begging tho
It's not the 30's anymore and watching characters always dance is dumb now
Actually, demand for animation is now higher than ever thanks to covid. If anything, Zig Forums is about to win big thanks to this virus
Blame Hanna Barbara (company, not the actual duo)
Them and DIC really fucked animation with their cheap shit
90,000 deaths won't swing an election.
asking for more steven universe is not higher demand
Have you not been paying attention to Hollywood? The film industry is on fire, live action shows can’t be filmed, and thousands are writers are out of jobs while animation is working business as usual from home. There’s been a lot of fire for WGA writers trying to get into animation because the Animation Guild handles them and because WGA usually mocks animation, but streaming services are ordering new cartoons like wild fire right now
>Garbage like this is considered a complex fight scene that needed a special animator on board to do it
>Meanwhile, shows like Jackie Chan Adventures were running circles around this on just an episodic basis and everyone on staff had to be capable of drawing fight and funny scenes
Why has the skill level for cartoons dropped so hard.
*beginning
I'd imagine production companies are actively seeking out those kinds of toons, probably saves a shitton of money.
Because executives demand it.
This baffles me too, literally just 20 years ago fight scenes in cartoons were consistently blowing the fuck out of modern fight scenes, now it seems like cartoons struggle to do even basic ones and frequently have to call in guest animators to accomplish anything fluid. Where the fuck did that talent go so quickly?
i mean, compared to most recent televised cartoons like SU this is decent/goodish. compared to everything eles its not all that interesting
Everybody just gets cheaper. Execs demand cheaper. Reasonable corners are cut. Exces are happy, then push for me. Repeat process multiple times. Who knows, maybe one day it'll go full Clutch Cargo
But that's the thing. The bar was been lowered so far that now we grade on a curve. That's often a sign of, "The average is so bad that if we grade based on measurements, everyone will fail".
Capitalism.
Are you just choosing to forget how badly animated the majority of 80’s and early 90’s cartoons were?
The mere act of walking was a blessing in those days
I can see why they needed the special animator. The action is pretty simple it's the smoothness and movement spacing that it requires since the volumes stay consistent. My only gripe with the action on this show is how slow everything moves, it breaks my immersion and is basically double the amount of time it should take it feels like a children's show so it doesnt give kids whiplash or something
When can we stop acting like most of everything before 2000 was clutch cargo tier shit?
It wasn’t clutch cargo, but it was still still, lazy, and often recycled
>80s
For sure, although by the end of the decade there were clear exceptions
>90s
Eh, not really. Cartoons produced then tended to have much more fluid animation and only relatively obscure ones were noticeably stiff by then. Can't really think of a famous 90s cartoon with stiff, recycled animation like you saw in the 80s, even Doug for its relative cheapness didn't recycle animation.
what show
Early 90’s. We’re talking pre-cartoon network era.
A lot of the stuff in cartoon express and fox kids did not look good
