Maybe. The central premise was strong, but once it became structured and rigid it fell prey to some really bad writing decisions. It could work, but you'd have to get some really good people behind it.

Gordon being a silent protagonist means I think it would be impossible to cast someone as him. Make him sound too macho and you don't buy him as an advanced physicist, make him sound too nerdy and you won't buy that he's a total badass as well. Seriously think what Gordon would sound like talking, Half Life is a great game but the reason there's next to no external media is because it isn't designed for much more.
