Dreamworks movies

Are any of them actually good?

Buzz

The Aardman ones were great.

A good amount

Off the top of my head, the 2D ones, Kung Fu Panda, Megamind, How to Train Your Dragon and Penguins of Madagascar are pretty good. Shrek varies. Aardman is basically another studio entirely.

I miss 2d Dreamworks

prince of egypt, el dorado, Kung Fu Panda, Megamind, and Sinbad are all excellent works. dreamworks is a very inconsistent company. who, quite honestly, need to fire their marketing department.

Dreamworks has the problem are having really good looking movies on par with Disney but half of them aren't good because they were specifically made to profit first

Generally speaking, they're competent enough. For every Shark Tale or Boss Baby, we get a Shrek and How to Train Your Dragon.

Also, Antz is underrated kino.

>How to Train Your Dragon
Haven't paid much attention to the sequels, were they good? Feels like sequels in animation are always worse.

I wish Kung Fu Panda and HTTYD didn't have any sequels, since they were quite inferior imo. I did like Shrek 2 somewhat, but they should've stopped there as well

I liked 2 more then the first one, havent seen 3 but heard it was a good one

It's pretty much impossible for me to think of Dreamworks without thinking of Shark Tale. It's pretty much their quintessential film, their Donkey Kong 64 if you will

Your gonna have to elaborate

Second KFP was apparently really good

Just like DK64 with Rare, Shark Tale represents all of the things that most people associate Dreamworks with ( pop culture references, postmodern irony, celebrity casting, innuendo, soundtrack full of popular artists, dance party ending )

Didn't like it. The peacock was the only worthy thing about it imo. Creatively bankrupt sequel made solely for the money

Are there like 2 divisions at Dreamworks? One makes the movies such as trolls, shark tale and MVA, and the other makes Kung fu panda, HWTYD, and Megamind?

I do know Shark Tale wasn't made by the team that made Shrek 1 and 2, but rather the team that made the 2D movies. Same director from El Dorado btw

You mean PDI?

yes, they were better than pixar for the past decade,

but saying that to something like /r/movies will get you banned.

>PDI
What is that?

I mean Don Bluth made NIMH and Rock-a-Doodle, variance is pretty common

Yeah, that is it. Antz, Shrek 1 and Shrek 2 were all made with PDI's help, while Shark Tale was the first DW film made entirely in-house. It sorta explains why the CG in that film looks so weird.

If you mean better because of stuff like Panda 2 and Dragon 2, then no. Those films were just dark for darkness sake. I loved the first films, but the sequels trying to go for an Empire Strikes Back approach wasn't needed imo. It doesn't help that the writing was overall inferior to the first films

The thing about Dreamworks is that they make committee made celebrity vehicle movies, yet try to pretend that they're making serious art, which i don't like at all. Makes their films feel pretentious and phony. This is why i actually like Shark Tale so much : it doesn't try to pretend being anything else. It's 100% honest about being a cynical marketing product, and it's proud of it too.

Shrek 1 and 2 were unironically kino. Prince of Egypt is great too.

Here are the Dreamworks films i would recommend. There are the only ones i liked
Antz
Prince of Egypt
El Dorado
Shrek
Shrek 2
Shark Tale
Madagascar
Bee Movie
Kung Fu Panda
Monsters vs Aliens
How to train your Dragon
Megamind
Puss in Boots
Madagascar 3
Rise of the Guardians
Peabody and Sherman
Trolls
Boss Baby

the Prince of Egypt and the El Dorado faces arent actually doing *the face* it's a stretch
and they also happen to be two of the best

no, they were actually really good movies, but if you really think the likes of finding dory or increadibles 2 was better than theres no helping you.

Panda 2 was definitely not a good movie imo. Dragon 2 was fine, but inferior to 1. In any case, i do consider Toy Story 3 and even Inside Out to be better films with far superior scripts.

Ill give you those two pixar films, but you realise that even IO has its plot solved in the worst Deus Ex Toon physics that no dreamworks film of the year ever tried.
