My guess is that it's only really cheating because the other racers have to use all of their tricks and weapons and so on so they can win, where as Dick already has the fastest car and doesn't even really need to fly or shoot lightning like the others do, he just uses traps and tricks because cheating is his brand.

The Meanmachine goes so fast that he is always far ahead the other racers setting traps. But its not about winning its about cheating. In laugh Olympics his boothleg version wins fair and square but the victory was sour for the rest of the team because they didn't cheat.

There's a minimum of two times (at least) where Dick Dastardly definitely won Wacky Races, but gets screwed by the judges for no reason. The usual argument is "he's a cheater" but as people point out, it would be a better lesson if the cheating character, the few times they DON'T cheat, win. This teaches it doesn't matter whether you cheat or play fairly. And of course if they cared that much Dick and Muttley would be banned from the game. Plus most of the shit the other racers do is cheating by normal standards but it's "wacky" when they do it and "bad and cheating" when Dick does it. It's very hypocritical.

It's a bit like the Trix Rabbit situation where the Trix Rabbit won Trix in a race, but real kids had to vote before the judges let him eat Trix (at least they let him, but if they had voted no he wouldn't get to despite having won). Hell, I swear there was at least one commercial where the Rabbit bought the Trix with his own goddamn money and those fucking kids took it away from him. Even when in some situations it would make sense for things to turn out differently, the plot always needed to be the same.
