In a podcast shown on pebbles's twitter Mr. Hadel elaborated on how they wanted to incorporate every possible animation they could use from Stop motion to CGI to even rotoscoping (hence the party dude). He also said the last image, with a Hyperrealistic Pim, was inspired by Spongebob since, as it turns out, he never really grew up with Ren and Stimpy.

I can't say for sure if it'll work, but it was one of the best new things I've seen on Adult Swim in a while, so I hope they give it a chance. Seems like the premise will work well as a series. You could have new people to help each week, more stuff with the office, or just go off the rails in some episodes.

I think the hard part would be making the formula feel fresh in each episode, but I would imagine that they have something figured out.

i think it's pretty rare for an AS series having a better pilot than the rest of a series. the series might decline but the best episodes are usually once the series has found its footing after a few eps.

Zach responded to this criticism on a podcast. He knew for the premise that having a depressed suicidal man would either have to be the first or last thing they do for the show, and he said to expect increasingly bizzare requests the characters will have to do to get others to smile. Given his famous hypotheticals I have full confidence in what he and Michael will be able to come up with.
