Why are comics so lacking when compared to other mediums?
A comic about some monster punching other monsters is considered to be one of the best comics of all time, while other mediums constantly dwelve into human conditions, emotions and philosophy.

Because Hellboy's story is shit and you're comparing a storyline to storyline. Literature will almost always win because its writing and story is basically all literature has. Hellboy's strength is its art, which is something literature doesn't ever have unless it's a child's picture story book.

Sounds like edgy trash.
user, how many people read Tolstoy this days?
How many people enjoys hellboy?
You may not like it but this is how peak entertainment looks like this days.
>Comparing graphic art storytelling with one og the greatest works ever created by a writer that has three of his books considered as "masterpieces and supreme achievements of humanity".
Fair play, i see.
The art in comics doesn't make up for the lack of writing compared to books.
And compared to cartoons they're lacking in both categories.
They're a cheap way to tell a story so you should have that in mind.
Cartoons don't look good.
In here it is, don't get me wrong I like russian depression wave, but books on themselves are a limited media compared to comics.
Eurocomics are far better than American capeshit and would serve as a more interesting comparison
Disagree.
Both have their own audience, even if comicbooks are popular in young fellas they're not made to be relevant, it's just entertainment.
While books are not really that limited, they're just there, as the way to transmit knowledge by excelence.. Brilliant books stay relevant in a way that transcends and inspire mankind and the creation of more valuable works through millenia.
Completely different both.
Literature is like a salad. You probably hated it as a kid but started enjoying it more as an adult. But even if you like it, you're still mostly eating because it's good for you, not for the taste.
Comics, and other entertainment books are like burgers. They might have a little bit of the same greens and veggies a salad has in them, but you still want the beef and cheese and bacon or whatever. It nice when comics have a little bit of depth to them but without the spectacle, intrigue and fun they don't serve their purpose
This is entirely the case and the art is generally more competent as well.
do you think comics can't delve into those subjects?
>Comparing a fun action/adventure story to a classic work of philosophical fiction from another medium.
I mean, when you do that, you can make any medium of entertainment to look like shit.
Oh, and before you try and hit me with a "gotcha," no, I don't think that Citizen Kane is peak kino or 2deep4u. I'm just using it because it's generally seen as good.
Meh.
To be honest more of it is prejudice, you can make an adaptation of a play on comic format and it works if the art is decent, there's no reason for written words to not work inside speech bubbles.
You need to read more comics
>food analogy
Every.Damn.Time.
I'm buying this. I'll let you know if it's good. Also the Italians make really good comics if you get the translations.
This one is excellent
Nothing about women can be excellent. They are shitty characters because if you write them realistically they are boring and if you write them with actual personality it becomes too much of immersion-breaker.
Censorship
The written story in comics as a medium is just secondary. Comics are first and foremost a visual medium.
Their whole selling point is the mechanism of sequential art... the exploration and conjunction of individual panels into a narative framework.
Then why hasn't that ever stopped good stories being produced in movies?

You cant compare them.
Movies and books are much more related to each other than comics.
In movies and books they show/tell you the whole story, in comics you have to connect the dots yourself.
You basically need a higher IQ to enjoy comics than books or movies.
Because comics are a really obscure medium. They're not produced anywhere near the number of books or movies that are put out, so the number of good comics is very small. It's the same five people who write comics and congratulate each other over it.
>A comic about some monster punching other monsters
Try not to make your bait too obvious next time, OP.
Is Asterix actually good our just the Europoor version of nostalgia?
