Main issue was the pacing, they were trying to fit an A, B, and C plot into a 30 minute pilot. You have at least 10 characters that need developed beyond base traits, explain the world, and explain the motivation Charlie has to want to have a hotel to help redeem sinners. That was what the pilot needed over all, just that plot line explained with the main gang all fleshed out enough to go beyond basic traits. There's a reason why the joke is that Angel's entire character is just funny sex joke and gay porn: because they didn't have enough time to go beyond that before they had to go to another character.

Let's say instead of a pilot, they did three separate episodes for each plot. Episode one would've been Charlie and Vaggie at the news station doing the thing they do already, just explained better with more in depth details before the entire thing, ends just as they show Angel in the turf war with Cherri, boom. There's the set up with some conflict already of one of their main guys still doing sinner stuff and Charlie still being humiliated on TV. Episode 2 could've focused on Angel, Charlie, and Vaggie bickering about all of it and showing just how much this all means to Charlie with some small development from Angel. Could have the opening half of it be about the actual turf war itself, explaining why they do that kind of thing and all. Episode ends with the knock on the door. Episode 3 just plays out the same way as how the show has it, just a lot more development from all of the characters and a good starter for an actual series.

Fixed your series. Either make a pilot a pilot or make more episodes first.

I'd tone down a few of the character designs and dial back on some of the more out-of-place sound effects, but that's about it so far. I liked the pilot well enough and don't have any more story to judge in the meantime.
