Joker being an eldritch entity was one of the dumbest thing DC has ever did with him

Romero had the best portrayal

Wasn't that shown to just be a trick on his part?

My quintessential version of the Joker... Grant Morrison's JLA.

>quintessential
Probably Arkham, specifically Arkham Knight. Joker is far more interesting as an unstoppable moral evil than just a physical threat
>different versions
We've been getting a lot of them recently, be it in DC Black Label books, Joaquer, or Leto. I kinda liked letoker's grungy modern gangster feel, but they went about it kinda stupid. Pic related is the worst, especially coming off the heels of one of the best
>games
Telltale and Arkham are both great. Arkham Origins and enemy with in are great joker stories, even if they aren't great games. is retarded
>Actor
Joaquin or Mark.
>3J
Not even worth mentioining
>Bored
not really. I still wanna see a Wilem Defoe or Crispin Glover live action Joker.

>Clown Prince of Crime
the Harlequin of Hate, the Ace of Knaves, and the Jester of Genocide, I love all these dumb nicknames

>Who is your quintessential version of Joker?
Call me whatever the fuck you want but it's Hamill's, most specifically Arkham Knight's Joker, out of every other iteration of the character this was the one that connected to me the most. Maybe it's the more adult liberty they were able to give him or the interactivity of the medium or maybe a mix of both and then some. I keep coming back to this game time and time again because of how pleasing this version is to me

>Do you think stories that depart from common Joker characterizations do the character justice? (Joker - Bermejo, The Dark Knight, Suicide Squad, Joker 2019)
Some do, some don't, some are boring, some are entertaining. I'm really glad that you brought up the Leto Joker because I worship this interpretation because of how unlikable and straight up loathsome he can be which is a welcomed departure from what we've been offered for the last decade. I am very tired of relatable joker, I wanted a joker that I can just hate from all perspectives and Ayer delivered, shame that the studio pussied out and fucked Jared over with retarded marketing

Willem Dafoe, be it live action, mocap or animation this is something that really frustrates me. I wish I had enough money to just get it done

Dunno, dont care, fuck geoff johns

>Are you sick of him already?
Ofc not, Joker is a concept more than a character. The day I get sick of him is the day I get sick of comcs

>Who is your quintessential version of Joker?
The Arkham Games Version
>Do you think stories that depart from common Joker characterizations do the character justice?
Some of my favourite versions of the Joker come from these interpretations. They can add interesting new spins on the character which in turn can inspire new stories
>What do you think of Joker's in games such as Telltale's Batman, Mortal Kombat, Injustice?
Injustice 2 Joker looks like trash
>How do you predict The Three Jokers storyline will go?
I hope they foregt about that as soon as possible
>Are you sick of him already?
Yes ... No ... Maybe? I just wish other Batman villains were allowed to be at the center of stories again instead of just beging background actors

>Some do, some don't, some are boring, some are entertaining. I'm really glad that you brought up the Leto Joker because I worship this interpretation because of how unlikable and straight up loathsome he can be which is a welcomed departure from what we've been offered for the last decade. Very much agree with this, especially
>I am very tired of relatable joker, I wanted a joker that I can just hate from all perspectives
The Joker being relatable, poor, and incel or a symbol of revolution is fucking retarded.

>what genocide has he even committed?
Has Emperor Joker many.
With the Worgog many

>Who is your quintessential version of Joker?
Hamill, in general. Unpopular but I liked Leto's version for the reasons mentioned by another user and I wish I got to see more.
>Do you think stories that depart from common Joker characterizations do the character justice? (Joker - Bermejo, The Dark Knight, Suicide Squad, Joker 2019)
I liked all the ones mentioned except Joker 2019. That portrayal is retarded, and that's being generous. You're not supposed to feel like the Joker could be JUST LIKE YOU, ffs.
>What do you think of Joker's in games such as Telltale's Batman, Mortal Kombat, Injustice?
I only like him in the Arkham series.
>Who's portrayal of Joker in animated media and film do you like the most, and who would you like to play him next?
Hamill is obvious for animation, but I also like Tudyk and Troy Baker. I'd like to see more of Leto, but I've already said that.
>How do you predict The Three Jokers storyline will go?
I'm moderately curious about it, not gonna lie. Probably will be disappointed though.
>Are you sick of him already?
Nope.

>Who is your quintessential version of Joker?
The quintessential Joker for me will always be Bronze Age Joker. I always say that half of the reasons why people consider DCAU Joker the best (and he is, don't get me wrong) are because of the Bronze Age foundation they used to build him. Stories like Joker's Five-Way Revenge and Laughing Fish to me highlight all of the best qualities the character has, the ones that truly elevate him into a position all his own in the villain pantheon, and these have nothing to do with him being the biggest, scariest, murderousest villain of all time ever.

>Do you think stories that depart from common Joker characterizations do the character justice? (Joker - Bermejo, The Dark Knight, Suicide Squad, Joker 2019)
Joker isn't so much of a character as he's a walking sandbox for writers to play with. It's part of why there are so many goddamn Joker stories. He can just go anywhere and do anything, and half the time they don't even have to justify it.
I don't mind reinterpretations as long as they are well-written and stick to the fundamentals of what I like about the character (like Joker 2019). I can also acknowledge that there are Joker reinterpretations that are well-written and interesting (Telltale, The Dark Knight), but that I personally don't care much for.

>What do you think of Joker's in games such as Telltale's Batman, Mortal Kombat, Injustice?
Don't really care desu, but he seems to be a lot more fun and in-character in MK11 than he is in the Injustice games. I don't know why.

OP here
I guess some other questions would be
>Favorite Joker design wise?
>If you had the chance to design/write Joker, what would you do?

I'll post more when I think of them

>Who's portrayal of Joker in animated media and film do you like the most
To not sing the justified praises of Hamill for a change, I really love Emerson's performance in TDKR.
It's the way he sounds so eerie and even-toned, and still convey the menace and humor the character has. It's honestly the only time Joker has legitimately creeped me out.

>who would you like to play him next?
I wish Brad Dourif got to play Joker once.
My current choice would be Glenn Howerton.

>How do you predict The Three Jokers storyline will go?
I predict that Golden Age Joker is gonna be killed off unceremoniously to make the other two look better, and that this whole idea is gonna die quietly in about two years and will only be remembered with the same kind of "what the hell was that bullshit" disdain we use to remember things like the Clone Saga or half of X-Men history.

>Are you sick of him already?
I'm sick of Joker being written as the only Batman villain anyone should ever care about. I'm sick of writers still feeling the need to reinvent the wheel and make him BIGGER and EVILER every story. I'm sick of every other villain being made to look like chumps to make him look better, and how many of those villains haven't gotten shit in years because the last decades of Batman comics have been all Joker Joker Joker The Most Ultra Mega Dangerous Scary Villain Evur My God Here's More Joker. Any character would get obnoxious real fast under that.

But I'm not entirely sick of Joker as a character. Every time I think I am, that I'm just completely done with all Joker content, something comes along to remind me of why I like him. Something like Dark Prince Charming, or John Carpenter's Joker one-shot, or Sejic's Harley, or even the 2019 movie. When he's done well, he's a league of his own.
I guess I'm just burnt out on superhero comics.

>Who is your quintessential version of Joker?
Hamill. Specifically the Arkham Games. Also Special Mention goes to Troy Baker's Joker from Origins. Really underrated Joker preformance.
>Do you think stories that depart from common Joker characterizations do the character justice? (Joker - Bermejo, The Dark Knight, Suicide Squad, Joker 2019)
So long as they don't become the norm I'm fine with them. I like when comics try different things, but I do feel they shouldn't experiment to much in their mainline versions of characters, unless something from whatever "What If?" really took off and was loved by the fans, but trying to crowbar that into the mainline rarely if ever works out.
>What do you think of Joker's in games such as Telltale's Batman, Mortal Kombat, Injustice?
See Previous Statement. I also feel like the MK and Injustice Jokers really aren't any different from the standard comic Joker. Telltales was an interesting idea but I haven't played the second season of that so I really don't know what they did.
>Who's portrayal of Joker in animated media and film do you like the most, and who would you like to play him next?
Hamill is my favorite, and I wouldn't be against DiCaprio playing Joker. He might be able to do something good with it.
>How do you predict The Three Jokers storyline will go?
That hasn't been resolved yet? I feel like that thing popped up like 3 years ago? Honestly I think its fucking stupid and I don't care what happens with it.
>Are you sick of him already?
Not really. He was never my favorite Batman Villain but I've never hated him. Only tie I ever really go tired of him was funny enough, the Arkham Games, only because he kept turning out to be the final big bad of the game.

>Who is your quintessential version of Joker?
Hamil and Nicholson, no doubt
>Do you think stories that depart from common Joker characterizations do the character justice? (Joker - Bermejo, The Dark Knight, Suicide Squad, Joker 2019)
Only in Dark Knight and 2019 they did something good, but mainly because Ledger and Phoenix are great actors
>What do you think of Joker's in games such as Telltale's Batman, Mortal Kombat, Injustice?
Arkham's Joker is still the best interpretation in videogames, but they fucked it up in the final battle in City, also, he's OP as fuck in MK11
>Who's portrayal of Joker in animated media and film do you like the most, and who would you like to play him next?
Its a tie between Hamil and Phoenix
>How do you predict The Three Jokers storyline will go?
I haven't read that, but it would lead to something idiotic
>Are you sick of him already?
No really, he kinda deserves the spotlight that he gets, but then again, they're better Batman villains

Attached: jmk.jpg (554x554, 24.52K)

I'm fucking sick to death of this grinning faggot being treated like Batman's 'only' definitive villain.

He may have had some great stories, and some outstanding adaptations, but it's just wearing on my last nerve how much creative energy he hogs from Batman's other rogues. I really wish he could just go back to being simply an 'all-star' strictly in the context of Arkham, and be regarded by other Bat-baddies as an equal peer instead of this ~legendary~ arch super-villain.

>quintessential version

I wish I could say Cesar Romero, as he's my favorite classic style Joker, but there's a reason TAS Joker takes this spot time and again for most people.

It just hits all the right marks for the character:

- He's deadly, while not being a homicidal psychopath for the sake of shock value.

- He's a showman who commits crimes more for attention/fun/vanity than money, but also not completely above needing money to function.

- He's actually funny at times.

- He's eccentric and loony, instead of completely insane in the "oh so epic super sanity insanity" kind of way.

- He's intelligent, and cunning, instead of being some kind of "insane super genius".

- He's human, and not some kind of supernatural force/god/eldritch entity/flavor-of-the-month super being.

>Do you think stories that depart from common Joker characterizations do the character justice?

Most of them don't in my experience. They often just pick a single aspect (the craziness, the homicidal tendencies, the anti-society ethos) and go all in on it instead of doing something truly unique.

sick of the current approaches, not the character

>What do you think of Joker's in games such as Telltale's Batman, Mortal Kombat, Injustice?

I've only played the Mortal Kombat version which seemed to have gotten closest to the classic Joker concept.

>Who's portrayal of Joker in animated media and film do you like the most, and who would you like to play him next?

Outside of Hamill, I like Jeff Bennett's Brave and the Bold Joker. It's fun and fits the classic style perfectly. I also like Kevin Michael Richardson's Joker in the The Batman cartoon. I understand why a lot of people don't, and I didn't like it either at first, but it grew on me is one of the few really unique Joker designs.

In the movies it's pretty much all about Nicholson and Heath Ledger. It's a shame he died, his joker was a little too all in on the anti-society aspect, but it worked and was an entertaining departure none-the-less.

>How do you predict The Three Jokers storyline will go?

Terrible. It's not a good concept, and really comes off as though it came from a group of guys getting high/drunk and then one of them blurted out "OMG, DUDE! WHAT IF...THERE WERE LIKE...THREE JOKERS!"

>Are you sick of him already?

Completely. I despise that the Joker gets so much attention while the rest of the rogue gallery gets routinely ignored or treated like crap.

Honestly, the animated series in the 90s gets praised like it does for a reason. It was a creative masterpiece that didn't rely entirely on Joker, and instead included him as a piece of Batman's rogue gallery. We got great new stories and interpretations of classic Batman characters (Mr.Freeze being the most outstanding example).

I really wish we had modern day writers with the creative chops and ideas of those in the 90s. Imagine each Batman rogue getting their own version of "Killing Joke" or "Man Who Laughs" or really just getting HALF the attention and pushing that Joker gets.

>it's just wearing on my last nerve how much creative energy he hogs from Batman's other rogues.
Yeah, that really is my big beef with this character as of now. I don't mind that he gets treated as the greatest Batman villain, because although he's far from my favorite, he unarguably is. I don't mind too much when DC balloons him to ridiculous proportions, because if they're gonna do that to Batman, it only makes sense to have his villains follow suit (of course, Joker is the only one who gets this treatment).

My problem is that Joker has far too often become a sign of creative bankrupcy in a Batman story, when he, of all characters, should be the exact opposite.
So many times now we've had unremarkable Joker stories. Stories where he adds nothing and is just there coasting on star power. Stories where it almost seems like he was chosen because he's easier to write decently than every other Batman villain. And stories that actively called for the inclusion of another villain, or creation of a new one, and instead put him on top. Again and again and again and again.

Batman has the finest rogues gallery in fiction and literally dozens of villains that haven't seen usage in decades just begging for a revival, let alone the popular ones who hardly get anything these days.

Oops, sorry, I meant to reply to

>Three Jokers
First, on the three Jokers themselves, the differences that contrast them:

>Original Appearance Joker
A criminal mastermind who just happens to have a disfigurement that makes him look like a clown. Much more of a conventional gangster compared to the other two. Primarily motivated by money and power. Best leader and organizer of the three. The name is meant to be ironic, not sincere. Not as into the whole "supervillain" theme/brand/gimmick thing. Smiles and laughs much less often as a result. Thinks the other two Jokers are silly.

>60's/Classic Joker
The most supervillainous of the Jokers, in that uniquely comic book style. Primarily motived by fame and public attention. A natural performer, but also a brilliant chemist and biologist. Cares the most about branding. Commits crimes with a clown/comedy theme almost exclusively. Puts his face on everything, such as cars, helicopters, "secret" hideouts, fish, etc. Started out as a mostly harmless prankster, but lost his innocence over time due to feelings of insecurity. Thinks the other two Jokers are dull.

>Brian Bolland/"The Killing Joke"
A bloodthirsty psychopath. Primarily motivated by a twisted obsession with Batman himself. Not as street smart as Original Joker or as book smart as Classic Joker, but makes up for it in utter ruthlessness. All about shock value and nothing else. Has masochistic tendencies that cause him to occasionally mutilate himself (slit tongue, severed face, etc.) Thinks the other two Jokers are noncommittal.

Attached: Earth-29 Joker.png (635x1140, 1.35M)

Now, on the history of the three Jokers:

Original Joker begins his criminal career as the leader of the Red Hood gang. Becomes disfigured after a botched robbery at the Monarch Playing Card company, but is not driven insane by it. Pulls a few more high profile crimes after that, but keeps being thwarted by Batman. Eventually decides there's too much heat on him. Fakes his own death and goes underground.

Classic Joker, believing the original to be dead, steals his identity. Using his knowledge of chemistry, he bleaches his body to match the original. Keeps Batman occupied with various flashy but impractical crimes. Original Joker sees this as an opportunity. He can anonymously support this new "Idiot Joker" behind the scenes. While Batman is distracted dealing with Classic Joker's mischief, Original Joker's criminal empire can slowly grow without being noticed.

A failed stand-up comedian, forced into a life of crime to support his wife and unborn child, finds himself being mentally damaged by the stress of his circumstances. A close encounter with Batman, which he only narrowly escapes, drives him over the edge into full blown insanity. He reads about Original Joker's original story and, in his madness, begins to believe that he was the one who was thrown into a vat of chemicals that night. This delusion becomes so strong that he actually breaks into one of Classic Joker's abandoned hideouts, the Ace Chemicals plant, and jumps into a vat of diluted toxin, becoming the Bolland Joker. As an infamous serial killer, he brings terror to Gotham.

Classic Joker is furious that someone is stealing his spotlight. The fact that he stole the identity himself, and is therefore a hypocrite for being upset, just makes it worse somehow. He begins committing even more outlandish crimes to get the public's attention away from the new guy and back onto himself (laughing fish, ambassador of Iran, etc.)

Original Joker, still operating from the shadows, decides to encourage this rivalry between the two new Jokers. He keeps pushing them to push each other. Bolland Joker cripples Barbara Gordon. Classic Joker one-ups him by murdering Jason Todd. On and on it goes, for years. All the while, Original Joker's secret empire of regular criminals committing ordinary crimes continues to dominate the Gotham underworld.

When Batman sits on Metron's Mobius Chair, he becomes aware that all these events have taken place for the first time. He always had his suspicions about the Joker's inconsistent motivations and behavior, but this was the last piece he needed to figure out the puzzle. Now the question becomes one of what he, Batgirl, and Red Hood will do with this new information.
