Marvel can't even reprint Rom's original book even though everybody liked it.
ITT: Characters we will never ever see again for legal reasons
Hasn't he had an IDW book every so often for the last few years? Did something change very recently?
IDW Rom and Marvel Rom have the same name but aren't the same character.
Barbie and Ken in Toy Story
Ironically
I only knew Silver Samurai before the movie so it sucks he wasn't in it.
That's not a legal thing.
It is. Marvel legally renounced the characters to Disney and are forbidden from showing or referencing the comic book versions.
Charcoal from Thunderbolts will probably never be brought back because the winner of the create-a-villain contest from Wizard who created him sued after Wizard failed to give him stuff he was due and because Wizard fucked up when writing up the contract. So he was killed off and will remain dead forever.
There has got to be some sort of legal issue with Elijah and Isaiah Bradley. There is no way Marvel wouldn't have taken full advantage of the "first black Captain America" for more progressive brownie points, no way they'd keep Eli out of all Young Avengers reunions, and there is no reason to give the Patriot identity to a completely different black kid otherwise.
I dunno anout characters per se but books that won't get reprinted:
-Marvel's other licensed books like Micronauts, Shogun Warriors, Godzilla, King Arthur and the Knights of Justice, Sectaurs: Warriors of Symbion, etc.
The Spawn issues with Angela.
That pedo guy's Green Lantern run.
And pray tell, who do you think Marvel is owned by?
He was the Captain America in Vietna....Siancong war?
>The Spawn issues with Angela.
Has there not been any new Spawn reprint collections since Marvel got her? It's been like six years now.
Penders is a retard.
Eli appeared in MC #1000
Suspected that Isaiah's creator has some clause that only he can use him.
True, that's his only appearance in like 8 years.
But why would Marvel ever agree to a clause like that? They've never done it before or since.
Guess the whole Crossgen characters, bought by disney but creators still have rights to get paid for use. So Disney asked Marvel to relaunch them, but only used the name. It flopped, so they will never be made again because no faith and too expensive.
Milestone! Because of legal differences, flopped solo title relaunches, they will not make them for a long time.
This. I am the first to criticise blackwashing, retroactively diversity push, but this was so good. I never understood how you destroy the young avengers brand and neglect a "diversity" character that the mayority was ok with.
Malibu comics' Ultraverse is also owned by Marvel and they also haven't done anything with the characters in decades, rumor has it because the contracts with the original creators would give most of the profits to said original creators and it would thus not be financially viable.
>Never done before
Maybe he was a better negotiator?
I know that Marvel bought them mostly for the coloring and printing process. Dont know if it is true, Malibu was Images help for coloring and printing. So Marvel bought Malibu for know-how and to hit Image.
Its not totally unheard of in the comics world though, for example Neil Gaiman has to approve of every use of a Sandman character. Its very rare but it is definitely not something that has never happened.
That's not a legal thing though, that's just Neil Gaiman having so much clout that DC wants to keep them in their good graces. If they used Sandman characters without Gaiman's OK, he would get pissed off and never work with DC again, which DC doesn't want because Neil Gaiman sells.
If Neil Gaiman were to die tomorrow, whoever Neil Gaiman's legal heir is wouldn't be able to dictate how DC uses those characters.
I wonder if Gaiman is such a pro, that DC are ok, to be on good terms with him.
So what's the deal here? Does James Robinson own part of the rights to the character or what?
It's probably a similar situation to Neil Gaiman
It is similar to Niel Gaiman's Sandman.
Robinson has full say on what they do with those characters.
Still no excuse not to release the Omnibus of these characters.
Ugh, I want to read the full series but Omnibus 3 is out of print so if I want to fill the gap I have to buy three trades or so plus The Shade’s miniseries.
Good, their book was awful.
