Toonami Ratings for 5/23/20

As feared, MHA will rerun on 5/30 and 6/6. In the lead slot of course.

Last week, despite actually airing a new episode of MHA, the entire block nosedived over 100k viewers across the board. This week, we lead with 90 minutes of reruns yet again, and turn in a performance that is just about the same, but still down a tiny bit. Again, an uninformed audience may be the cause for MHA still pulling a crowd, next week will be a real test. And down as the night was, the premier section in the second half of the block has extremely good consistency. I guess when there’s only 90 minutes of new content, that encourages some viewership retention we didn’t have in the past.

based thread

Current Series End Dates:
My Hero Academia - June 20, 2020
Paranoia Agent - July 18, 2020
Mob Psycho 100 - July 25, 2020
Black Clover - August 29, 2020
JoJo’s Bizarre Adventure: Golden Wind - August 15, 2020
Naruto: Shippuden - April 14, 2024

I don't come in these threads often, but I gotta wonder if there was any sort of internal backlash when FLCL2 and 3 failed.

I imagine there must have been. Demarco micromanaged the whole thing witn multiple trips to Japan. He kept insisting they tone down the sexual stuff.

>never reran outside of the premier window
>CR snatched the rights away later on
Iirc they sank about 3 mil into the project. Probably had a lofty expectation for its turnaround

At a time I thought there was, but then I saw AS let them piss away an assload of money on DEEN Rick and Morty

When will we get some news that isn’t a cut or a rerun?

I think this might be it. This is it. We'll be lucky to get an announcement for shows we already know about like Uzumaki or Blade Runner if that's even still happening.

They are still happening, but I’d be surprised if Uzumaki maintains its expected late 2020 release. Which is a shame because it’s presumably October premier was fitting, and instead being pushed to early 2021 won’t be very in season

According to July is going to be our make or break month. If they can’t muster up something for those three openings, the already dropping motivation will hit the floor. Especially now that Corona is going by the wayside and things are going back to normal. Demarco will have no excuse at all to not have something

I will be pants shittingly shocked if Toonami lasts the rest of the year. I hope it does, if only to shitpost in threads and spite people who hate them.

>tfw last Friday would have been Momocon
>MHA would have need replaced this week meaning we would have been guaranteed at least one show reveal
Who would have thought the block would die to a pandemic?

For the moment, dishonest schedule practices seem to be keeping the lights on. MHA is doing way better than it should as a rerun. If AS sees they can just prop the entire night up on 5 reruns and Naruto, they might be able to drag the blocks corpse along long enough to air those two shows. The other 4 thing Demarco likes to pretend matter can be cancelled anytime and we wouldn’t know the difference

CR only has the subtitled version. The dub is still with AS.

>Toonami propped up til 2024 with Narpo
If that is the way things turn I will finally drop it.

I'm basically just here until Golden Wind ends.

>only piece of new content on Toonami till death is Naruto
Imagine the pottery if the block dies the exact same way TWICE

What did they mean by this?

I'd laugh. I'd laugh the laugh of a man at the end of all things who is powerless to stop it.

>Literally a month of MHA reruns followed by two more reruns

>Not just starting the block with BC o Jojo then Naruto

Just why? What the fuck is running through his fucking mind? He literally shelved premier MHA to the end of the block during the late S2 episodes. So why cant he do this for the reruns.

Probably on thin ice for wasting William Street money

It would be one of those endings where you can't do anything else but laugh.
Laugh at such despair.

>unga bunga me hate Black Clover
That explains that. Why Jojo doesn’t move up is a good question though since he is a fanboy

Lets predict how they fuck up July
>Mob doubles up the week after MHA ends so it will end the same night as PA
>Mob S2 does not air and it isn’t even acknowledged
>despite waiting a week MHA still reruns all of S4 at midnight
What else?

Network probably won't let him move JoJo any higher up. Remember the scheduling department wanted it at 3am last year until enough people complained to get them to put it earlier.

Come on guys have some faith, July was their redemption month last year. It almost all up from then to November. The only real downswing was August and Genslop.

Valid point, and if the block was still all premiers then it’s 2:30 home makes perfect sense. I can see treating PA as a premier, but they could have at least bumped Jojo and Nart above Mob, and lead with Black Clover. Unless of course, they actually have a good show to replace MHA at the end of the month

Only because executive meddling stopped us from getting Yuri on Ice at the last second. And even then, they were barely able to secure Food Wars as a replacement in time.

Demarco himself doesn’t even sound optimistic. And he always lies through his teeth about this stuff

What even could replace MHA as the lead? Toonami has used generic shonen garbage as the lead for so many years now I question if they can turn that practice around without tanking the rest of the night

Fuck it. Slap Naruto up front. Normalfags will watch and I can continue to skip the first part of the block.

I’d be fine with this if it means we can use the current Naruto slot for some decent niche shows

Why does Demarco refuse to call on Sentai even in the most dire times? Even Food Wars seemed forced, even though Sentai was very supportive of its airing with promotions

Because Demarco thinks Sentai is icky and problematic.

I do kind of wonder
>took them over 4 years to get a show on the block after revival
>after those aired took another 3 year hiatus
>however at the same time were begging Toonami fans to request their shows
They clearly want to work with the block. So why they can’t seem to come to an agreement with Demarco is a little baffling. First assumption would be price, but if they are so desperate to be on Toonami, surely Sentai would negotiate on what works for the Toonami budget.
