I never understood the people saying that Apokolips was supposed to be an allegory for the Nixon Administration when the issue Glorious Godfrey was introduced opened with a quote from Hitler and Desaad was running a “happy” camp where he tortured innocent people. The techno war that Darkseid waged ending in a stalemate seems like an allegory for WW2 transitioning into the Cold War. Either way, just because King was trying to tell a specific story doesn’t means it’s good, and it’s completely valid to be upset if a character’s established way of acting is shat on for the sake of that story.

He took the story of the New Gods - which is a cosmic hyper-epic about chivalry, courage, hope and despair, destiny, doom and fate, freedom and slavery, evil and good - and turned it into a pathetic story about a hallucinatory parody of those ideas. It is unbelievably vile in a way that merely bad writers like Bendis, Snyder or Fraction could never attain, because they are merely inept. They TRY to write good stuff.
But King - like Dave Sim in a way - is deliberately writing terrible comics.
