How do we fix Hawkman?
Step one: prove to us that you actually read Hawkman comics.
Superheroes are escapist powefantasies. Figure out what the core of the escapism relating to hawkman is and capitalise on that.
Off the top of my head

>being a prince
Like, make stories that celebrate these core aspects first and foremost, then go from there.

3) give him an origin even kids can understand

Fucking this. Recent writers are really overdoing the reincarnation angle and forgetting the mace swinging hawk superhero angle. Right now he comes off as a hero version of Rasal Ghul or Vandal Savage. The whole bird theme is not even necessary any longer when he can recall all fighting styles, ancient magics, or priestly rituals for every situation that comes up. The guy should just travel with a backpack of knives, swords, holy symbols, crystals, magic wands and other shit he keeps in his museum but it really a front for his own little ancient relic Batcave.

Despite the many posts whining about reincarnation, it's something that any writer would be brain dead retarded to drop because it's part of the hook of the character. There are alien superheroes, there are winged superheroes, and there are superheroes with long lives so the Hawkman mythos standout by having all three.
you would think even the fans would have to eventually agree that Hawkman has never really worked well as a solo character. Even in the 40s his solo was cancelled, it could not last long in the 60s and it fell completely apart in the 90s. Ever since it is more amazing when a solo makes it to the one year mark. Clearly the character has little to no mass appeal. Yes he does have some dedicated fans, but so does literally any character. Speedball has a small group of super dedicated fans.
If DC wants it to finally work, something somewhere has to change. They cannot just keep throwing the exact same shit at the wall every few years hoping to god it will stick this time. Because 70 years of Hawkman history has shown that is not the case. They need to alter...something. I don't know what at this point, but they need to find something to make it work. And that cannot happen if they continue keeping up the exact same character, with the exact same costume, doing the exact same thing he always has.

That is not what I said, yes I know damn well it has been there since day one. But it was never really addressed or given much thought after that again except for a couple times when Hath-Set appeared. Then Johns run made it something that pops up three and four times an issue until it became the single most important aspect of the character ever.
