Why do Westerners have this idea that because something is animated, automatically means "it's for children?"
I don't understand the logic because there is plenty of Western media that features adult themes & where the main demography are adults. Yet for some strange reason, the stigma still exists.

That show's artstyle always bothered me. It looked like it was animated in MSPaint.
In my book the problem is entirely the visual style. Big Mouth is really funny and has some good stories, it just looks awful like most Western shows. Wakfu looks good. Ye olde 2D Disney movies looked good. Take Big Mouth, throw away all the visuals and redo them. It could be good. I blame shows like The Simpsons and South Park for setting a low, low, loooow standard for the visuals in adult-oriented cartoons.
It's shit because it was an Adult Swim cartoon that got rejected and retooled into a kids show.

Animation in USA was first targeted at adults. The reason why it became a kiddie thing was censorship and also the birth of Saturday morning cartoons as it was easy to show cartoons to target kids to sell some crap. Certain creators eventually tried to change this which led to the birth of MTV, Adult Swim and shows like South Park, however as you know now there's still this division between "animation for kids" and "adult animation".
