A ton of cartoon "critics" have the sensibilities of someone who's desperate to be taken seriously as a mature adult, yet their profession of critiquing what is popularly (some might argue incorrectly) viewed as childrens' entertainment precludes them from achieving just that. As a reaction, they have to react with disgusted indignation at a show that does not cater to the DEEPEST LORE and OMFG SO DEEP REAL ISSUES crowd.
I can't remember the CS Lewis quote, but basically, these assholes are too obsessed with maturity and appearing mature that they can't let go and have fun.
