The sun isn't going to explode so that's already one dumb shit out of the way, if we take it figuratively with him meaning that his life will end eventually then it still doesn't make sense to end it earlier if he actually enjoyed the good times even if they were temporary, the "harsh realities" are also temporary going by this logic so they have the same weight, your life doesn't mean anything in the grand scheme of the universe but simply nothing does, meaning is fabricated and you have to find your own meaning in life (which he does).
His character is inconsistent, he was introduced as a "made man" that lost everything but then he became essentially a teen that didn't find a good hobby yet, those are entirely different traits.

The sun is going to expand into a red giant and then eject its mass into a planetary nebula, the sun's remnant will be a white dwarf that can live for trillions of years, saying it will explode is nowhere near accurate and misses the true beauty of a star's life cycle which we are part of.
