lots of things

all the things

A great show during a great burst of creativity in western animation.

it was interesting enough to distract from the crudeness of the visuals

The stars aligned.

who was your favorite villain? for me, it’s the sunglasses guy, ya foo!

based

It is a once-in-a-generation show that won't ever be replicated again. Courage started off amazing and it ended amazing. The best episodes were one of the best of CN history, and the 'worst' episodes were still decent.

- Horror animation which in and off itself is pretty rare
- Unafraid to be incredibly weird or bizarre in subject matter or humor
-god tier soundtrack that unfortunately will never be released
-Bizarre and dark at times but still able to be emotional and heartfelt
-The trinity of Courage, Muriel, and Eustace is so simple in its dynamic and able to be placed into all sorts of crazy situations without feeling that incongruous
-memorable villains and side characters

This was the perfect storm of creativity and artistry being unhindered by corporate meddling. It feels like a show that completely weaves around test audiences and notes from executives.

He wasn't a stupid dog

I think it helped for Courage (just as it did with Ed, Edd n Eddy and Codename: Kids Next Door) is the fact they were produced outside of Hanna-Barbera Productions/Cartoon Network Studios and in their own studios.
>Ed, Edd n Eddy - A.K.A. Cartoon
>Courage - Stretch Films Inc.
>Codename: Kids Next Door - Curious Pictures
Only the Courage and KND pilots were produced at HB and CN. The different studios helped give the shows a more distinct feel and look compared to the Cartoon Cartoons pre-EEnE. That's why the Cartoon Cartoons looked so varied and diverse.

>Right
The show flopped anons, Courage got cancelled because they couldn't sell merchandise since Courage was a pink dog.

michaelspornanimation.com/splog/?p=1559

>However, the lack of Courage by the merchandisers still remains. “Pink” or “Fuchsia” dogs will not sell in a boy dominated market place.

>implying anyone on Zig Forums cares about merchandise sales
Either way, 4 seasons and 52 episodes with good ratings, universal praise and a satisfying finale doesn't look like flopped to me.

Sanjay and Craig had more episodes and that is regarded as the worst Nicktoon of all time

>Sanjay and Craig had more episodes and that is regarded as the worst Nicktoon of all time
And your point being? Who cares about quantity? It's all about quality for us here.

May I remind you that Courage is the only Cartoon Cartoon alongside Powerpuff Girls that actually managed to return in some form?
>The Fog of Courage short
>Dilworth is working on a Prequel series titled Before Courage
>Dilworth is working on a Courage art book
>A crossover movie between Scooby Doo was announced some months back, planned to release in 2021.
Courage did well enough for them to still use the IP.

This. CN fucking loves Courage. I think it was less on CN cancelling Courage, but more on Dilworth wanting to give the show a proper end. Not in the sense he doesn't want to work anymore on it, but just closing off the original before it got stale.

>4 seasons and 52 episodes
typical animation run, burgers have a habit of watching neverending series so they naturally think only shows with 100+ episodes are successful

That's on them for putting out merchandise that focused on Courage and not any of the other characters. Also merch in the early 00s for weird shows like courage was nothing like it is now with places like Hot Topic. If cartoons like Gravity Falls or Star Vs. or Adventure Time came out back then they would have "flopped" too.

>>Dilworth is working on a Courage art book

Fuck yes this is the first I've heard of this

So, I guess no Eustace and Muriel in the prequel series, right?

This, the majority of the CN shows back then didn't have that much merchandise, that only one that had outside of crossover shit were Dexter's Lab and Powerpuff Girls.

Dilworth had creativity, control, and self-control. Today's showrunners are lucky to have one of those.

Reminder that this show got away with referencing serial killers and snuff.

People tout Gravity Falls for being dark but they never did shit like this.

Eustace

Honestly, I never understood why people say GF was dark. The deer teeth scene that everyone found oh-so-horrifying made me laugh, same with Bill's abuse of Dipper's body.

Everyone knows Tarantino but referencing Erich von Stroheim is something else.

you’re not perfect

Boomer-tier garbage that hasn't held up at all, it's not funny and the animation sucks

But enough about Ed Edd n Eddy...

>hurr durr dissenting opinions are bait
Sorry not all of us look back with boomer rose-tinted glasses, the show fucking sucks

>hurr durr everything I don't like is boomer-shit
Your taste is as shit as your bait.

Not an argument. It's objectively garbage, low quality animation, voicework, and story-telling.
