Rick vs Phoenix Person was cool though

why was Rick so nerfed this entire season?
Elijah Bell
Meh, hyper violence doesn't mean much with R&M at this point. They use it so much as a gag that it made the whole fight feel irrelevant. I mean you appreciate more that Jerry grazed Rick in the balls in the first 30 seconds over the hyperviolent bird person fight that ended with an off button joke.
Kevin Walker
Because Rick hammer spacing a solution to all his problems isn't really funny. Hammer spacing a bunch of gadgets to still lose a fist fight? It sort of works and keeps the stakes relevant instead of Rick prep-timing every fight with pre-planted sci-fi toys leaving every threat of violence a non-issue.
Jackson Lopez
It helps ward off the people who were self-inserting as him at least.
Joseph Wilson
I kind of took it as Rick losing his edge, hence why Space Beth was making fun of him.
also this
Dominic Anderson
Both make sense.
>Zeus
Had no planning time and both restricted themselves to fist fighting. Rick couldn't use anything too fancy.
>Bird Person
He was fighting his best friend. BP probably built his body specifically to counter Rick, and Rick couldn't go all out because he wanted to keep him alive.
It's good writing. Rick winning everything no matter the scenario is stupid.
Jason Butler
Rick get his ass kicked by a lot of people since the first season.

there's your problem
Christian Williams
At this point the show is stupidly over meta, might as well have a episode that’s just a live table read
Jayden Torres
These are both good explanations. The Zeus one is what I had in mind.
Noah Sullivan
Literally only that one episode was wholly based around meta stuff, the rest of it is just Rick occasionally breaking the fourth wall with jokes and stuff, the show as a whole isn’t particularly meta
Gavin Roberts
Pretty sure he's just not concerned about death anymore. He knows he'll resurrect in another dimension's rick clone vat, so he tries to take on fights more by the skin of his teeth for excitement. Unfortunately he's probably seeing how much harder that is after Zeus and PP
Angel Cruz
female writers focusing entirely on empowering Beth
Tyler Long
lmaoing at the rickope
Joshua Foster
It was lame, especially the caged organs. No fight with Rick can ever be cool because he's so far above it. The writers have to ignore their own lore to have him job and they did twice in a row. First to have him get literally cuckolded and second to have beth rise up to her new station as Mary Sue
Colton Scott
The Zeus episode was written by a man.
Jason James
Because they made him entirely too powerful in season 3. They started that season off with Rick taking out the galactic empire and the Council of Ricks in one fell swoop. Then it proceeded to spend the rest of the season sucking him off about how he's the smartest man in the universe and he can kill anyone.
Season 3 Rick was way out of hand. I didn't like him in the first two seasons because I thought he was an unstoppable badass action hero. I liked him because he was a goofy high INT/low WIS fuckup variant of Doc Brown. I'm glad they nerfed him in season 4.
Bentley Robinson
They didn't nerf him they buffed everything else which is way more fucking stupid.
>beth is not rick-tier
Nah fuck that. Besides the damage was already done. Unless they HARD retconned it now is just disjointed and shit. The soft retcon is incomprehensible to the viewer and feels like whiplash - because it is.
Just fucking end the show. Harmon is cancer and he's driving his ship into the malestrom but he just needs to sink it already - I'm tired of waiting.
Thomas Smith
He once died in a car crash. Stop treating this show like it's anime. Power levels don't exist in comedies. Rick is as tough or as weak as needed to service a joke.
Brody King
>Liking Rick winning every time
I bet you’re intelligent, nihilistic and have a wicked sense of humour
Caleb Gutierrez
that shows a rip off of back to the future

>Rick vs Phoenix Person was cool though
I mean yeah but all the action sequences in Rick & Morty where they have the characters trying to be really badass don't really do anything for me. In a vacuum yeah I think the fight scenes are cool. But in the context of Rick & Morty they just don't match up to what I come to the show for.
Think about how funny and impactful the carnage was in the first episode. The kid Rick shot with a cartoon scifi freeze ray falls over and shatters and the rest of the episode characters are mourning his death. Morty falls off a cliff and instead of him being okay like any other cartoon he sits there writhing in pain with two broken legs for a minute. Rick lying to Morty that the airport security were robots but then it turns out they're not and the one Morty shot is lying on the ground bleeding out crying for his wife.
The point of all that stuff was to play with your expectations of genre tropes to make jokes. That's what made Rick & Morty unique. It wasn't just characters running around being badass action heroes ruthlessly killing everyone.
I mean come on. It's one thing to have Rick be this psychopathic murdering badass, but now it's everyone else in the family too (except this universe's Jerry). Why the fuck was Summer remorselessly killing and pillaging in Mad Max world in season 3? Why is Beth's way of "finding herself" to become a badass space soldier?

>balls groped by jerry
Gabriel Hall
damnit jim, he's a scientist not a luchadore.
David Torres
Bird Person was a former Rick's partner. And they seems to imply several time that Bird Person might have been on par with Rick.
also, Rick was trying to take down Bird Person without killing him.
Jeremiah Foster
female writers not wanting a man to be superior
Logan Wood
But both of those times he was fighting another man.
Lincoln Turner
To this day, the hate for the Pickle Rick episode make no sense to me.
Nicholas Brown
It was a cool fight, but I'm still mad about Tammy. She gets one appearance as an antagonist, gets shot with very little effort and that's it?
Ethan Diaz
This, it was the funniest shit I've ever seen
