So, is it dead? Or just delayed due to Corona virus?
DC 5G
it's dead. there will probably be some line wide push/banner after Death Metal though like Rebirth or DCyoU
Was it ever really alive? Did DC ever officially announce it?
I think comics are gonna die bros. They should totally change their format and be incorporated as a section within streaming services. It's the only way people will pay to read them outside of the autism audience.
People have been predicting the death of comics for the last 2 decades.
yeah it's gonna look very different in a year or two
Jim Lee screamed "It's NOT A REBOOT" when asked, and that's about it.
They had four "Generation" one-shots that were supposed to start coming out before the corona. Those have been scrubbed from their release calendar.
Dead, some small vestiges might survive but it'll be co-opted into the main story, rather than being the main story. With Didio go e and the Rona, it made them realise basically everybody thought it was a terrible idea and the New52.5 and they halted the rollout
There were a lot of rumors circulating on here that 5G started a lot of in-office drama which ultimately led to Dan Didio getting the boot. Such whispers include Bendis having to be separated from other writers, working on opposite ends of the building. But this is all hearsay.
Comic shops are scared that DC is testing the waters for a exclusive digital only format, printing only collected trades. This is supported by such titles like The Terrifics not getting its final 3 issues published in favor of digital distribution
That's just the usual rumors that spring up on here that all just HAPPEN to be exactly what Zig Forums wants to hear every time, and every time they're all either information that can never be verified or just bullshit
user despite the bullshit we normally get on here, we also DO get valid leaks frequently. Given how hush hush 5G was, and the mystery surrounding Dan's departure, I'm willing to give it some credit. There's always a small nugget of truth somewhere in rumor
It's delayed due to the coronavirus. It's still on.
>bendis being a fag
What a shocker
If they put half as much effort into making good stories as they do in reboots..
Honestly user, they don't put THAT much effort into either.
Rebooting shit requires a lot of effort for something so shitty.
Right? You have to be a fool to think Bendis didn't rub people the wrong way when they rolled out that fucking welcome mat for him, and the pull he was given. You could tell DC was trying to soften the blow too what with no one giving a single fuck about event Leviathan. I know for a FACT one particular writer is upset with him, I've personally met them
I was honestly looking forward to it to see how they will fuck it up. And see which heroes are potentially dead.
>it's the only way people will pay
Dude, catalog sales and the YA book titles bring in more money than all of the digital streaming services COMBINED (Marvel Unlimited, Amazon/Kindle Unlimited/Comixology Unlimited, DC Universe).
>exclusive digital only format,
Digital only makes a healthy amount of money (no where near what collected library trades do, but a nice amount) that it's going to exist, but what is more likely going to happen is that some titles will be digital only and there will only be print copies of titles/characters that sell well (Spider-Man, Batgod, whatever Grant Morrison is working on, Kirkman's current bullshit) and the direct market will be mainly that and trades. The fact that Marble started doing that with some of their titles belays that.
Whatever it was supposed to be died with Didio. Whatever they were going to make of it, if they even had a plan, has been derailed by corona. They'd do better to scrap it entirely, it really never had a fighting chance.
Post-covid-19 are fans really going to support a radical new direction? If anything you’d think people would want their funny pages status quo to stay stable in these uncertain times. No one right now is like “hey we have plague, murder hornets and famine, you know what we need? Luke Fox Batman and aged up Jon Kent Superman!”
>Jon Kent Superman!”
Please stop reminding me that they aged up Jon. My wife, my son, and I enjoyed reading Super Sons.
Cope
From my understanding, it died when Didio got the boot. I don’t think it would’ve helped either way. Between Corona Virus and the riots I don’t think there’s much enthusiasm to head down to an LCS.
>Bendis having to be separated from other writers
From what I know at least four of the "main" DC writers actively hate him. Not sure if that helps, but it's the information I have.
Fans are never going to support anything radical, literally DC's entire business is build on middle aged status quo addicts
>Fans are never going to support anything radical
If it's good they will.
This. Just look at the New 52. You fags couldn’t even handle that and ruined everything.
They called it by name in Doomsday Clock
>Not sure if that helps, but it's the information I have.
You don't have to tell us who you are, just how you know. People will assume its a larp anyway
This thread raises an interesting question:
Can any of you come up with a well reasoned argument as to why print floppies should still exist that aren't predicated on your personal biases i.e. "I like building a collection"
You pay upwards of $4 for 20-24 pages. If you're like most comic readers, you probably don't close-read it as you read, so you more than likely spend 3 minutes reading it. It comes out cheaper and more contextualized in trade format, and on nicer paper to boot.
they come out before the trade versions
