Anyone remember threads pre-Ben vs Hal? And not just Ben 10 threads or Death Battle specifically, but versus in general. They weren't high-literature to be sure, but they were infinitely preferable over the screaming shitstorms and aggressive flamewars that constitute 'debates' nowadays.
