Now remember, language is a social construct. Words mean what we as a society agree they mean, otherwise communication would be impossible. But just as no one person has a veto on what a word means, no one person has a veto on what gender you may assign to someone. These are your words, as long as you make yourself understood, no one has a right to deny how you use them.

Yes, of course you have freedom of speech. But when you KNOW that shaking up that hornets nest is going to cause you a whole mess of problems, why would you willingly do so? You CAN, but you gain nothing from exercising your freedom of speech in that way.

People can't interact normally anymore. What's even worse is that the internet is a massive trove of knowledge but most people are too stupid to even know how to use search engines correctly. The population is actually dumber for having the internet, despite all odds.

I've been a professional cartoonist for like six years now and I never knowingly have. And if I have, it never came up, because it's none of my business to go around snooping into what my readers look like.

Best advice I've seen is to just post your art and interact with your audience and that's it, don't go out of your way to talk bout politics or other miscellaneous crap that doesn't relate to your art.

Flat-out ignoring works too, that's true. They'll get bored and find someone else to pick on.
But what usually doesn't work is drawn-out, melodramatic apologies that make it all about you, especially after a week of trying to re-direct and double-down on your original position. The idea is a simple, friendly apology BEFORE the lynch mob is summoned.
