Didn't they try pitching this years ago with an entire first season already planned out? Also it'd definitely have to be a french thing because burger networks or streaming services would never air this, it's too lewd to be "family friendly" and it's not edgy/tryhard enough to be "adult" so it fits absolutely nowhere in american animation

Two months of premieres on Nickelodeon, followed by a year-long hiatus and dumping the 70% of the rest of the episodes produced on Nicktoons at 11PM at night. All because it wasn't an instant hit matching Spongebob's numbers immediately. That's exactly what will happen.

That’s kind of my question about it too, the games are in a weird spot because they’re mostly E10+ and don’t really have anything inappropriate for kids (minus an innuendo here and there) but the level of horny in the designs is beyond what’s seen as acceptable in children’s media nowadays.
Would be weird to go full-on adult cartoon with it considering that’s not what the brand is but I feel in most other contexts that whole element of the appeal would get toned down and would annoy fans

Totally agree with this user that wayforward is at their best when they let the horny flow through them. Their stuff is heavy on the cheesecake, and that's one of the main parts of its charm, so the animated series would need to also have this; the problem being most western studios don't seem too keen on "objectifying" women like that. Guess it goes to Japan.

On the other hand, Shantae is essentially a huge girl power series. Most of the cast and important characters are women and they're all competent, but I don't think that's enough to get people to look past the initial designs.

Netflix would pick it up in an instant

The games aren't exactly great.

There isn't any sex in this series.
It tops off at "Har har, da cute girl is belly dancing".
It's sex through the lens of a 12 year old.

Making a female character sexy or having them wear skimpy outfits is now automatically objectifying them for the male gaze
While beefcake is just throwing a bone to the female audience with nothing socio-political about it

I have this problem with Shantae
You see, I want to like her, but I can’t because I feel like her entire existence is just sex appeal. It’s not just fan art. The creators themselves are going out of their way to make her a sex object. That’s literally all she is. Even Lara Craft has some character, and the games had memorable moments besides her boobs. Shantae’s entire existence is just being sex appeal, which wouldn’t be a problem, if not for the fact that it’s an E rated game, with a character who’s age is very iffy.
Because of this, I pretty much avoid all Shantae games. It just makes me so sad. She just feels so hollow. She’s nothing but sex appeal.

I never understood this hypocrisy. Poll shows that the most attractive part of a man to a woman is the bare chest. We have plenty of that even in preschool cartoons and nobody cares and you better believe women enjoy the well-built men walking around nearly naked. But if a woman takes her top off it's instantly considered porn or at the very least TV-MA. It makes no got dang sense.

Make it short (5-10 episodes) and get a quality studio to animate it (ideally Trigger).
Get a streaming plattform to finance it so you don't need to worry about cutting content to get it on the air.

The funny thing is that there’s a huge potential market in selling sex to those 9-to-12 year olds who are old enough to feel funny about a character they think is pretty but young enough that they haven’t progressed onto any real adult interests or media.
Japan gets this by putting big titty waifu in shonen comics and music producers have been targeting girls this way with boy bands for decades
No one in the west seems to want to do this for boys, though, other than giving all the moms big asses. And Pen Ward tried, before his writers ruined the self-insert fantasy for those kids

I'd like to see an Shantae animated series in the style and aesthetic of Wakfu, where it's not telling this big epic story, but rather just having weird episodic fun and doing neat world-building.

can't wait to Cartoon Network's "Shantae!!", (Produced at California Institutes of Arts) every Sunday at 6am. I saw a scene where Shantae jumped on a guy, and if you get the context you'll shit bricks. They also made a joke about how they cant do T&A in this, sooo META

these costumes are totally unacceptable in the mutt industry. they seem to underrate sjws. the sjws are now like monsters.

Personally I blame western media standards for why I consider midriffs more attractive and erotic than breasts. If a girl pulls down her crop top to expose herself, and covers her navel in the process, I will find that less attractive.

I love the games, but honestly the world in the series is kind of a mess without much thought or consistent lore behind it. It's really all just dressing to make the game happen, and to have the cute characters interact.
At the same time I really don't want them completely reinventing the IP just so it works better as a cartoon like the Castlevania netflix show, which ultimately feels like it's hijacking the identity of the games to me.
If they gotta do it, maybe some quick shorts, like others mentioned, but nothing heavy.

I have no idea who the character actually is or what her personality is like in the medium she was originally intended for because like 2B I've only ever seen the character in rule34 porn
