Peridot being asexual might not be literal, she might just be an allegory for not wanting a certain type of relationship. Fusion doesn't create babies, it just creates a relationship. Therefore it's not sex, while it is comparable.

I'm sure that was her intention behind Rose and Greg making Steven after Greg was trying to find out how to fuse with her.
