>Was Hank right?

Yes. People who are good-looking and have charming personalities can get away with doing just about anything and remain popular and well-liked. Bobby is fat, obnoxious and awkward. He can't get away with being a dog shit collector. It's a hard lesson and a lot of people may not like it, but it's true.

That said, the guy didn't deserve to get his ass beat at the end of the episode. He didn't do anything wrong and was just trying to help Bobby. There was no reason for him to get his shit kicked in.

No because the only reason he disliked the idea of Bobby working in that field was that he was going to be judged as a bad father.

The mistake he make was hiring idiots who don't know how to take a single to stop.

That's not what he told the dog poop guy. He told him that Bobby's life is hard enough as it is and it would only get worse for him, socially, if he took up a job collecting dog poop. He even told the dog poop guy that he respected what he did and that he provided a valuable service, but the only way he could get away with it is because he was "charming" (Hank's words). He tells him honestly that Bobby ISN'T charming (and Hank isn't wrong) and that he could never be accepted socially doing that sort of job.

Also, Hank is always right.

Bobby has been shown to be charming on multiple occasions, he’s not like Joseph

Yeah and every time he tanks himself by taking it too far.

Hank was wrong on this one because it makes him a hypocrite. This guy's job is no worse than Dale's and he's more successful, if Hank isn't embarrassed about being around Dale there's no way Bobby wouldn't have turned out fine.

Bobby is definitely charming. He just isnt super handsome which is likely what Hank meant but didn't want it to sound weird

Well, that and that it wasn't one of the tiny handful of non-Strickland-Propane-related careers he'd previously decided he could tolerate Bobby pursuing.

No, Hank can't see what's valuable about his own son, Bobby's a socially adept well-liked kid, but he's different from Hank and Hank doesn't understand him. There's no reason Bobby couldn't do this job and not remain well-respected just based on the virtue of people liking him and him getting on well with most people. So what if he's a little butterball.

Hank's one of the hardest dudes out there, for better or worse, he's completely emotionally stunted and a lot of that comes down to Cotton. He spent his whole life trying to indicate to Cotton he wasn't a pussy and when he looks at Bobby he thinks "Is this how Cotton sees me?" and cannot believe it. The irony of course is that Cotton fuckin loves Bobby.

>the chad poop collector vs the virgin poop collector

bobby has his own kind of charisma
also hills tend to mature into handsome men, both hank and cotton were chads. Peggys genetics arent shit either.
I dont see bobby becoming ultra chad but he would be the kind of guy to show up and everyone says hey bobby is here

I mean we see an example of it when Bobby tries to build his own vomit cleaning business, and the frat guys refuse to take his business card because they don't want to touch something he's touched.
His vomit business was just a bad idea. Peter Sterling's poop business kind of works because there's no contact involved, he just has a bigass shop vac that sucks up the poop. But bobby doesn't have anything like that, he'd be presumably just scrubbing vomit on his hands and knees.

Well, Rich probably to work up to the vacuum himself.

The vomit business was bad because you cannot really plan for vomit they way you could schedule a dude to come by once a week to pick up dogshit.

He picked a frat, consistent business.

Yeah but you're basically on call at that point unless your clients just leave vomit on the floor for days at a time. At that point, start a carpet cleaning business.

>Still thinking Bobby wasn't Bill's secret love-child

Took me forever to realize this guy was voiced by Johnny Knoxville and that they 100% picked him due to it being a great meta joke.

Hank is frequently wrong. It was the entire premise of the show in early and mid seasons when it was still good. Bobby is consistently shown to be a very charming and likeable guy barring a few episodes about teenage awkwardness, and even in those instances it's something he's outgrow. Compare how well adjusted Bobby is generally compared to Joseph, who is an absolute mess at all times.
This guy's got it right, Bobby's take on the sanitation business isn't practical, but he's showing initative and trying. He obviously can't compete with Rich in the present, but there's no reason he couldn't use the same business model at a different time or place. The important thing about Rich'a business is his clientele. If you can get big contracts from rich people and big organizations, they're happy to consistently pay for some one who will do that kind of work so they don't have to. It's extremely steady, lucrative stuff to cater to upscale clients

The fact he had to pay a guy to "prove" his point is enough to say uhhhh NO?!

Based, Mike Judge is a genius, he thought this one through very thoroughly

His name is Peter, you’re thinking of the guy who did fart pranks on Hank

I'm still unsure if the "mashers" were the real deal or part of a ploy to scare Bobby away from doing vomit clean-up.

They were hired.

King of the Hill is a sitcom with shifting personalities as the plot dictates. In a lot of situations, Bobby is a very charming, funny guy that can easily get people to like him and sometimes he's an awkward dope. In that situation, Hank was right, I guess, but in another situation, Bobby could've made it work.

The theme of how people are affected by their parents and how they pass that down to their children is a powerful one in King of the Hill and it's why I actually like the retcon to Peggy's mom because it goes a long way to explain why she is who she is.

Peggy’s mom vs Cotton, who wins?
