I've never understood why this scene gets memed so much. It's arguably the MOST justified of Optimus' brutal killings in Bayformers. Sentinel was a fucking rat bastard and absolutely deserved to be exceuted.

I don't get why people are so pissy about Optimus killing to begin with. He's a soldier, you really think he fought for 4 million years and never killed any bots? You really think he didn't enjoy it?

Optimus wouldn't execute a defeated opponent.

About 6 minutes earlier in the film it depicted the Decepticons killing prisoners and played like sad dramatic music and showed the Autobots falling in slow motion.

Then Sentinel is on his knees begging for his life and Optimus coldly shoots him in the head and I think Michael Bay thought we'd cheer.

Hot Rod may have been a Luke Skywalker ripoff fuckboy, but I think we can all agree that Rodimus Prime was a pretty sick name.

It's more odd than that, those Decepticons were just taking prisoners, and only kill one of them after being goaded into it by their human ally.
Then Optimus kills an injured Shockwave as he's trying to flee, executes Sentinels as he begs for his life, and murders Megatron as he proposes a truce.

The problem isn't that he's killing, it's how and when.

Sentinel literally tried to murder him ten minutes prior. Sentinel also killed his best friend. Sentinel ALSO lied to him, cheated him, and stabbed him in the back not once but multiple times over the course of the film.

I can't blame Optimus for being a little pissed off at Sentinel by this point in the movie. Given everything Sentinel had put him through, I'd probably blow his head off as he begged for mercy too if I were in Optimus' position.

Bayformers sadly never did enough with Ironhide to really sell that they were close friends like in G1.

If they'd done the work to build that up over 3 movies, and had Optimus bring Ironhide's death up here, you could make the scene work a lot better than it does.
