It's been ages since I've read the books and I'm struggling to remember. The Starheart has some connection to the Guardians. Kyle inherits the ring/lantern from Alan, but in the 3rd volume Sinestro shows up to kill Kyle and President Hal Jordan gets the ring and some becomes a Corps GL. Honestly by the 3rd volume Byrne was losing his grip and the story was a hot mess.
