are there any western comics in which characters apply the same level of thought and strategy in using there supper powers that one might find in a manga like hunter x hunter.

Honestly HxH combat gets a little too complicated with everyone hyper-analyzing every move and having ten levels of strategy and feints and "I knew you knew that I knew that you knew that I'd do that so I did this to make you think that I thought that I'd think you'd do this!"

Not a comic, but Wild Cards is a cape shit Novel that has very interesting, strategic and well though out situations involving the characters superpowers, not unlike what we would have latter with Jojo or Hunter X Hunter. Other than that you're shit out of luck pal.

Every time a superhero has to fight some one stronger than them they have to do it strategically.
Anime's flaw is that they just make the character stronger to solve problems, even the stand user types are just telling you "my stand is stronger than you think" when therir used in some obscure way..

The only one I can think of is Uber, and even then is less strategy during the fight and more strategy during the battles as a whole.

Pretty accurate, reminds me of the scene where Jotaro used a magnet to move in time stop because he planted another magnet on dio while getting his shit kicked. Except he was banking on it being figured out because it was really to trick dio into thinking it was a trick because jotaro could actually move in time stop.

I like HXH but it turned into a subpar JoJo in the later parts, togashi even started using the same naming conventions

It's kind of accurate. A lot of the dumb bullshit of his plan is similar to stuff that actually happened but not all at once.

I'm less knowful than average here about superheroes, but Spider-Man is pretty crafty when using web.
Stronger superheroes tend to be dumber in combat.
Superheroes without powers like Batman are intelligent overall even when they fight.
I remember the Invisible woman be pretty intelligent herself when the situation calls for it (not combat wise, but when doing intelligence work)
