Probably the same phenomenon as the 'black men in dresses' thing Chappelle noticed. Hollywood knows black people are scary, but they desperately want white people to embrace them, so they do whatever they can to soften them and make them non-threatening; make the men wear dresses, make them transform into cute animals, etc. Anything to sell them to white people and make us comfortable with them.

Pigeon movie would have been better without the pigeon. Princess and the Frog would have been a completely different movie without "and the Frog", but the NOLA scenes and voodoo bits were the most interesting parts, so that's not a bad thing. SOUL will be bad regardless of the soul percent.

I unironically skipped everything between when will smith was turned into a pigeon and when he was turned back. It was an enjoyable 20 minute short movie about a super secret agent befriending tom holland in the middle of a shootout.
