Why do 20 something males like SU? More than any other non-adult swim show

For me it's a form of wish fulfillment: I want to be loved again. The kind of love men have for women, but women only have for children.

That is, to care for someone as a human being rather than a human doing.

I can't de-age, but I can self insert and experience a fraction of what I remember through Steven.

How common is this motivation?

I wanna rape him

good songs, I like the characters, I like the story, and I wanna fuck Pearl I don't know what you're talking about

Isn't that just projection?

How do you mean?
It's accurate that Steven is loved, and until SUF, feels loved.

Wouldn't projection be imagining he's feeling something the show doesn't depict.

It still sucks that Zuke ruined Lapis's whole arc with Peridot and Jasper. A whole story line forever ruined because a writer wanted their story, not the creators.

Same with the crew only wanting to write townie episodes and Sugar refusing to reign them in into late into the 4th season, but by then the pacing was already all off. We spent so much time on characters we didn't need to that had zero impact on the overall plot.

The only side characters I think that effect the plot at all were the Teenage Crew, Lars, and to a lesser extent Sadie. Everything else was either filler or just using a character to go from point A to Point B, and it could have been any character.

Though, at least Onion (at first) was used as a conduit to show aspects of the world and Vidalia was used to tell backstory and was actually the only organic relationship any of the Gems or Greg had outside their group. Not to say we shouldn't ever focus on side characters but just not the amount of time we spent on them.

The show we got wasn't bad, just average to kinda good; I love it for what it is and it'll always hold a special place in my heart for what it's done in my life, but if Sugar was a better showrunner it could've been great...

I wish I lived in a world with NO SU!

I just thought it was a cute show and some of the characters are hot (Pearl)

that's it really

So it's a hugbox simulator. Interesting.

The art is good, the characters are cool, its my favorite genre. Hope you are loved someday op.

adult swim shows are cringe

Steven Universe always felt like an adult show with a story to follow, lore to remember and covering topical issues and generally being up-to-date instead of rehashing old cartoon plots as shows like Loud House do or and don't rely on shock humor or hot takes to get people watching.

SU, She-Ra, Twelve Forever and other shows like it are more "adult" than tryhard garbage like Primal or Harley Quinn or edgy hot take shit like Family Guy or South Park

I liked the music and the show has a lot of good waifus

>or edgy hot take shit like Family Guy or South Park
Sorta have to agree. South Park is in no way adult, it's a show for teenagers who think they're more mature than they actually are. It's decent if you fall in that range but looking back on it it's pretty laughable

>SU, She-Ra, Twelve Forever and other shows like it are more "adult" than tryhard garbage like Primal
This is 1000% bait holy hell you can't be serious

Because when the show started we were all kids with a lower standard of quality, and then sunk cost fallacy made us watch the rest

They're closet gay or they're trying to fuck a chick who uses they/them pronouns

Dog, all we had was fucking Adventure Time, Regular show, MAD tv and post Mr. Pickles adult swim. The fact it and Adventure time were finally telling stories through continuity and established lore was such old feeling considering the only other shows with that going for it was magical horse show, Wakfu, Anime (which people don't count) and TLA. On the bright side, Rebecca Sugar and Laren Fuast showed MSM outlets and other streaming sources that grown adults still fucking love cartoons. So it's not all bad.

>finally telling stories through continuity
Why do people care so much about this shit? Just go watch anime if that's what you want.

because this is Zig Forums and just because the origin of where works are animated doesn't mean the East should be the story telling side of animation as a medium. The fucking assinine.

TV has been mostly garbage for the past 20 years at least. This form of "story telling" that you praise so much more often than not just means long, meandering plots inspired by Soap Operas that take several hours to tell a single mediocre story, rather than telling a single good story in under an hour.

Just admit that Zig Forums wants it because of an inferiority complex.

Because of the waifus

>praise
hold you assuming tongue. I said I was starved of story telling and the only other things at the start of SU is AT and MLP. And the only 'cartoon' with a narrative that I stood by and loved was TLA. And since then I found Action man, Wakfu and so on. I want a story told through western cartoons because the art here varies, we are starved of some neat stories in service of episodic garbage aimed at adhd kids to sell toys.
>B-but just watch anime
I shouldn't have to jump regions to expect diversity in the medium of animation outside of indie productions, small kickstarted shorts and adult swim series.

Grown men care for this shit because they never grew up and expanded their horizons. Their bains are complex enough to require entertainment and stimulation that speaks to them at a deep emotional level, but because they are too lazy and uneducated to seek something better they are satisfied with cartoons that shallowly touch on feelings.

You could search for meaning and beauty that fills that void that drives all human exploration. But instead you fill it temporarily with easy to digest shit.

You will die with the taste of shit in your mouth knowing the world had so much better to offer FREE if you had only dedicated a bit of energy to expanding the bubble your parents had intended you to leave as you abandoned childhood.

Eat a dick.

Meh, too much work, enjoy your masterpiece, fancy pants

The western animation industry is struggling to put out anything other than crap poorly animated in Flash. Do you honestly think serialized storytelling is actually the solution?

Or are you that eager to see shows with over-arching stories that end up getting canceled mid-season due to low ratings or only get a single season that ends with a cliffhanger?

I enjoy it because it demonstrates that expressing feelings and fostering connections to other people are strengths instead of weaknesses, and that not dealing with your emotions in a healthy way can really wreck you.

it gives me hope for future generations, who maybe will be better equipped to deal with their own emotional turmoil, and be a bit more caring and empathetic towards others, and not bottle their emotions up and lash out at the world.

it's certainly not a mature show tonally, but being emotionally honest and genuine is a far more mature than many things being marketed as mature. if anything, violence, cynicism, misanthropy and irony are more puerile.

escapism. the world is in a shit place right now, and they like watching something that has a world where things are much less shit.

the show we got never hit its peak. the quality just leveled off at jailbreak and went out with a rushed whimper compared to what it promised.

The west isn't one person. I hate people whom categorizes things to such extremes. Not all of Canada is Johny Test, not all of France is half naked children, not all of Japan is DBZ.

>posts pic of comedy show that was rendered in flash

It's not a person, it's a small handful of companies, most of which are painfully risk-averse. Even the 2016 Voltron only managed the budget it had because it was based on an existing IP and the toy sales.

And yet Zig Forums loves it.

on the topic of what gets greenlit, it's gonna revolve around what big wigs see as profitable in terms of what demographic said show will bring and what products said show can tie in. With that said ofcourse low grade tweened garbage animated over seas is gonna peak it's head here. Or rather the business practices.
>Flash is bad because it's flash
MLAaTR shows it's the artists and not the tools. Hell EE&E was a show that transitioned from cel>digital ink yet retained frame by frame animation perfectly. Just a thought.
