Why is this show such trash?
I can't believe the people who made ATLA made this awful trash.
Why is this show such trash?
Get woke go broke
It's great though. Not without flaws or some dull episodes. Mostly surrounding Ezran. But overall it's still great.
I thought it only had two people who worked on Avatar. Ehasz and Volpe - was there someone else as well?
The protagonists are bland. The show would've been much better if Viren and his kids were the leads.
It hates white men and is blinded by feminist propaganda
I think it's good. Show needs to stop taking whiffs of it's own farts though. Especially pretending dark magic is evil though.
Besides the scottish elf with 4 fingers that makes my penis hard, I think this show really misses alot of the charm that Avatar had. Most of the jokes dont hit, the main gang is much less interesting, and the setting is far less inspired than Avatar's fully asian world with chimera animals.
I've only watched the first season, but the villain and his kids are much more interesting than the main crew. I enjoyed some of the banter that Soren and Claudia shared, and the deaf general was a cool idea.
This.
I get the criticisms but honestly I think the show is fine. It's a fun and charming show, and enough of the characters and their dynamics with one another work for me that I'd like to see more.
I wish we had a better understanding of dark magic use and users outside of Viren and Claudia. We get a pretty good sense that dark magic has humane uses given that it's been deployed to avoid famine, and it would be nice to see different takes on it from someone who's not currently at the crossroads of revenge and enthrallment.
Seasons two and three further develop all of the things that you mention liking, and I think that the show also does a better job of finding its footing with the aspects that you don't. Animation gets better if that's a drawback for you as well.
Just one of team of 3. Shows how much any show is a collaborative process.
I personally think they went broad and flat instead of narrow and deep. They went for a lot of characters in a lot of different locations with a lot concurrent storylines. That means you have less time to spend on your characters.
Take She-ra, they have a very small world, and a very small cast. At first glance, that feels cheap, until you realize that it allows them to focus on the characters instead, allowing them to deepen and grow over the course of the series. DP can't.
It’s okay, it’s just bland as fuck.
Claudia and Soren are way better than Callum and Ezran, Rayla’s fine.
The worldbuilding is so uninspired, it’s like their only frame of reference for fantasy settings was WoW. The story’s mostly serviceable, although the messages are inconsistent and fall apart the moment you start to think about them. It’s just a very middling show, which is fine, it definitely has its moments where its fun to watch, season 3 finally delivered in the grand, hype adventure promise, even if it was a slog to get there.
It’s unfortunate that it came out at roughly the same time as She-Ra, which like says, did the characters better and Dark Crystal, which does the traditional epic fantasy story and worldbuilding better.
I actually think it's one of the best example of dark magic being evil, you have to drain or kill a magical creature to use it. It only exists as a parasitic corruption of existing magic. That's much better than just having some demonic origin, that makes the use itself an act of evil more than the source of it.
It's good but it's one of those shows that always feels like it just misses the mark of being great.
My main problems in that respect are that we got great MCs in Rayla, Claudia and Soren but then we have to put up with Callum and Ezran and the whole mishandling of Viren after a certain point and by proxy the characters who oppose him (mainly Opeli being such a fucking annoying character despite supposedly being someone we should root for who just comes across as a useless nag to anyone with a brain), the fact that it frequently flipflops between trying to come across as a morally complex show but then chickens out and just goes "uhh it's evil because evil" and "dark magic bad", etc.
So is it confirmed for cancellation now or what?
It's been almost a year. With so little communication, it's certainly canceled.
>It's been almost a year.
Really? Damn, I hadn’t realized.
Netflix do tend to be very hush about new seasons though. They only promoted the second season of Kipo 2 weeks before it dropped
That view of dark magic is exceptionally Western, though. In Eastern traditions the duality isn't rendered as "good" and "evil", but "creative" and "destructive". Is it evil when a forest fire burns swathes of land after a lightning strike hits the underbrush? It's not evil, but it certainly is an act of destruction. In a similar vein black magic shouldn't simply be reduced to "evil" because it invokes cthonic forces, since those aspects are simply a part of nature. Embracing too much of it has its negative consequences, but so, too, does too much "good". If black magic were to be considered the manifestation of the absolute extreme of evil, then white magic needs to be considered the same for good. In that case, white magic would be dogmatic, fearful, overbearing, unscrupulous, and uncompromising.
However, thanks to Western mysticism, magic in most forms of media is pitifully reduced to an incompetently misunderstood interpretation of the Right- and Left-Hand Paths.
>>I can't believe the people who made ATLA made this awful trash.
why not they made korra
They literally didn't.
AtlA was created by Michael Dante DiMartino and Bryan Konietzko, with Aaron Ehasz as head writer.
DiMartino and Konietzko continued with LoK.
Ehasz went on to DP.
It seems to be the great equalizer for humans who were treated as second class citizens previously. Hell beyond that really beyond that I'm sure you ask virtually anyone with a terrible degenerative disease or crippling injury "Hey kill that baby dear and you'll be cured forever" they'd do it.
>three white people from the same family would be less bland than a white guy, his brown brother and Zig Forums elf girl
nigga you're either blind or stupid
Rayla, Claudia and Soren should have been the main trio
>diversity is strength
why is it trash? i think its kino
Boring show with no staying power.
90% of this thread is people saying it’s a mediocre show.
So why do I get the feeling that people won’t shut the fuck up about it for years once it’s cancellation is confirmed.
I honestly can't tell what message bits trying to send, if any
There's no particular message to the show. It's more that the show keeps raising up flags of virtue wherever it can. If you have an Arthurian-based universe with dragons and wizards, make it racially diverse: flag 1. If you have knights and soldiers, make the women the strongest and most capable: flag 2. If you have kings and queens, why not lesbian queens? Why not interracial lesbian queens with an inexplicable daughter?: flag 3.
So on and so forth. The virtue is meant to replace any genuine meaning you might be able to gather from the story. The rest of the clock is filled with humorless quips and fart jokes.
