Its 2011. You're in charge of the DCEU, you have to create a plan until 2020. What do you do?
Hire Dwayne Mcduffie, Bruce Timm and Paul Dini
>Dwayne Mcduffie,
He died in early 2011. You only have 6 weeks of him to use.
Bruce and Paul got this
So bascially we have to acomplish a few things here,
>Establish tone that is exciting, but different from the Marvel universe
>Show that there is a longterm plan
>Introduce larger universe with spin-off potential
I would open with man of steel, but then try to set up an overarching multi-movie plot. No movie is a closed story. All the movies ends with a cliffhanger, and the series would be 4-5 movies in total. Think of Star Wars or Lord of the Rings. I would do that, but for Justice League. This would make people anticipate and speculate for the upcoming films, and be different from marvel, which has more of a villain-of-the-week setup.
Much more serious tone, sort of like Batman v Superman. That movie wasn't bad because it was dark, it was bad because it had a nonsensical story and underdeveloped characters.
Each movie ends with basically the heroes losing. For instance, 2:nd movie ends with Luthour outwitting both Batman and Superman, revealing his plan was to reach out to and invite Darkseid. 3:rd movie ends with Darkseid taking over earth, forcing the heroes to flee. Etc. Plenty of side characters die. This makes the stakes high, makes the threats seem like real threats and when the heroes finally win it means so much more.
Something like that.
Make superman and batman gay
Focus entirely on TV and longform storytelling, HBO style shows not CW trash
Use a Batman TV series to introduce the more grounded aspects of the DC universe and a New Gods TV series (with Jimmy Olsen as a regular) to deal with the more fantastic stuff, as well as an anthology series that could have anything week to week
Build slowly and organically toward a theatrical movie or trilogy involving war with Darkseid
only one of them is alive and not shit.
make the trinity solo films, then a justice league film that introduces the concept of elseworlds and the multiverse
then just make interesting elseworlds concepts from there on out
maybe have a crisis on infinite earths crossover film, but that's as ambitious as it's gonna get
fatigue is real, as is the eventual homogeneity of the mcu, which is something we want to avoid
It was six weeks before he died, I'm pretty sure now that you're working on a billion dollar movei franchise Warner Bros would be willing to pay for a better surgeon than the one he actually got
give Morrison what he always wanted
PART ONE!
2011
> Green Lantern happens with the same primary cast but it's basically a adaptation of First Flight. Toss Parallax & Hector entirely. Minimal time on earth, focus is almost entirely on Hal & Sinestro building uneasy trust until Sin reveals his true nature ala Training Day. Keep the fucking CGI suit (never got the hate for it) but darken the colors a bit.
2013
> Man of Steel happens basically as we got it but with these changes...
> Faora is played by a different actress.
> Several happy scenes with the Kent family.
> Tornado scene but have Clark try & rescue Pa but he has a heart attack anyway or he has to choose between saving Pa vs other people in danger and Pa points for him to save them.
> Show Clark looking up right before crashing into the 711 realizing his mistake & trying to swerve but it's too late, after they tumble out he scans the 711 and sees customers escaping out the back exit safe and he expresses his relief.
> No kiss amid the destruction.
> Show Clark visibly upset & distracted by the destruction while Zod gives his speech.
> Optional: Clark does not kill Zod and instead repeatedly tries to drag Zod back to the fading Phantom Zone portal the whole fight (hence why he can't take Zod out of the city) and is eventually able to do so.
> A montage of Clark saving people from the rubble after the fight is over before getting to the drone scene.
> Remove Lois & Jenny being cuntish to Lombard. They don't owe him a date but he deserves a lot more respect after nearly dying while trying to save Jenny.
PART TWO!
2015
> Antje Traue plays Wonder Woman in a film basically the exact same as the 2017 film but with the following changes.
> Exact same outfit but with more cleavage.
> Better actor playing Ares (mel gibson? sean bean?) with more screentime.
> The makeshift armor forming moment happens but as the fight progresses Ares transforms the makeshift armor into a more quality faithful adaption of either his classic or injustice armor.
> Less telekinesis and more hand to hand dueling.
2016
> Affleck standalone Batman movie.
> Directed by Affleck or Cary Joji Fukunaga.
> Closely adapting either Court of Owls or a sympathetic Tas style Mr Freeze story.
2017
> Martian Manhunter movie set in the 1950s onward.
> Dark noir sci-fi mystery with him being a detective then a spy trying to snuff out both White Martians and commies infiltrating the government. Cold War UFO paranoia is a big thing.
> Have him kill Stalin when he figures out that he is aiding the White Martians.
> Lance Reddick or Idris Elba plays him.
2018
> Aquaman as we got it but...
> Just a little less silly in places.
> Deborah Ann Woll plays Mera.
> Mera's outfit has the scales from her JL suit instead of the flat octagon pattern.
I get Zack Snyder, and contract him for Man of Steel 1 and 2. I don't care about anything else, I WANT SNYDER'S MAN OF STEEL 2 AAAAAAAAA
Changing something.
2015
> Man of Steel 2 directed by Brad Bird (instead of tomorrowland)
> Smaller scale with Clark & Lois investigating corporations for human experimentation, villains are Metallo and Parasite (both born from people hurt during the battles of mos1), Lex is secretly behind the corporations but the film ends with Clark still not being able to prove it.
> Not sure who I would cast as Lex. Lars Mikkelsen? Gerald McRaney?
PART THREE!
2019
> Green Lantern 2
> Star Sapphires are the villains and are blatantly sexualized.
> Affleck Batman 2
> Batman vs Leto's Joker & Robbie's Harley Quinn who are in full villainous lovers mode.
> No tattoos and Leto's Joker is a little more Mark Hamill-ish.
> Harley turns against Joker near the very end when she feels he goes too dark or he flips out and tries to kill her.
2020
> Wonder Woman 2
> A sympathetic Cheetah story with Diana tracking her through exotic jungles and temples.
> Heavy Batman Begins style flashbacks showing them being close friends and bonding over archeology and Barbara being turned into Cheetah against her will by a cult or dark god.
> Ingrid Bolsø Berdal or Alice Eve plays Cheetah.
Rejected
Why?
this. Also some low budget bat movies to flesh out his timeline. Maybe a series instead
Start with balls-to-walls DCEU Final Crisis with Arrowverse tie-ins just like my comics.
Gal Gadoot is a good Wonder Woman.
Rejected
>2011
You mean the pre-DCEU that was going to start with Green Lantern? Or the actual DCEU that was hurriedly thrown together as a collection of bullshit announcements for SDCC 2013 so that WB didn't look like fucking idiots for not capitalizing on the success of Man of Steel?
>Establish tone that is exciting, but different from the Marvel universe
This is correct and sensible.
>Show that there is a longterm plan
And this.
>Introduce larger universe with spin-off potential
And this.
But why go to "much more serious tone" when we know that didn't work and just turned out looking fucking ridiculous? Zig Forums's general reaction to hearing long-time Batman and comics fan Ben Affleck was cast as Batman was to cautiously be optimistic that he'd gotten over his bullshit meddling that contributed to Daredevil being so unbelievably shit. Yet when the official previews of Affleck in his costume and his 'Batmobile' were released a few months later - before he'd really had time to do a whole lot of meddling, as he later boasted about having done on the set of truly awful film "Batman vs Superman: Dawn of Justice" - Zig Forums's general reaction was ridicule. Because he did look fucking ridiculous, and his Bat-tank was obviously just something they'd cobbled together from leftover dev work on one of the later, more terrible Arkham games, and indeed was used that way as a big ol' murdermobile in the movie.
More serious doesn't cut it.
>Darkseid
I think even by 2011 it was probably knowable - whether it was general knowledge or not - in Studio City that Marvel's The Avengers would, in April 2012 introduce large purple space threat Thanos in some form. That is the point at which investing in putting Darkseid - large purple space threat - on screen became a waste of money. It doesn't matter who was first in comics, it doesn't matter if you think Darkseid has some amazing distinction from Thanos in terms of character. These movies exist to push merch.
Something went right with Wonder Woman even if it's ultimately a quite forgettable film with a lead who just gets told what to do by guys all the time. I therefore submit to this forum that the elements of Wonder Woman which worked should be salvaged, but that the Wonder Woman movie itself never have happened.
Instead we begin with Supergirl, in a Woman of Steel-like movie that supplants the expectation of another Superman recasting. We leave it ambiguous whether there are other capes: it's her story, we're not setting up anything just yet. I'm going to admit I don't think we can do better than Benoist in the role and she's no more unknown back then than Cavill was. We're open to getting Routh back and tying into some version of the Donner mythos, but we're not set on it. A lot of the beats are the same: it's familiar, comforting for audiences who were worried about a total change, but it's not identical. We're not leading with Supergirl to try and prove a point, we're going with it because it's something new and the same at once, with a charismatic lead who has a great costume.
That's June 2013. For November, we're laying down the Shazam! movie that the Rock has been involved with since 2007. He's a big star, it adds a lot to the momentum of our movies. We're still light and we're still involving the kids these characters are ultimately for, but we're not afraid to cross over for a Supergirl cameo - whether it's her or a villain or both - as the b-thread of the movie. All that learning to be a superhero stuff is worth doing, but now there's two of them learning - together.
2014 we pull out TRINITY - our first crossover. Audiences are used to 'em. Supergirl, Shazam and introducing Batman. We've had three good movies so we greenlight Green Lantern reboot. It's time. It's not Ryan.
2014-2 is Batman Solo. That's the title. He's our guide to the wider world - not just Gotham, but the universe itself. He's up against Ventriloquist and Scarecrow.
Start with a Justice league Movie.
Martian Invasion, then break down the solo movies from there its all connected leading to Justice league Apocalypse style ending, where a flash point can lead to another 10 year movie run.
All these characters are well established or dont really need fake hype unlike Marvel.
focus more on the team up movies
Bump
I would start with a Batman film. Since we would be doing the beginning of the universe again, it would pick up in Crime Alley. I would focus on his relationship with his parents and only have him as Batman at the end.
Literally just copy the MCU formula. Standalone movies that don't contradict each other that build to a crossover. Fewer jokes, make the films more sincere.
>Superman, Batman, Wonder Woman, Superman 2, Aquaman, Flash, Justice League
>Batman 2, WW2, Green Lantern, Martian Manhunter, Aquaman 2, Flash 2, JL2
etc etc
Marvel has created a proven formula for cinematic success, and retards STILL manage to fuck it up by jumping the gun too soon.
I'll tell you what I don't do, I don't fucking kill Superman in his second fucking movie.
I would also hire Nolan for literally any part on the project.
Instead of trying really hard to do a cinematic universe, simply start with a really good adaptation of Morrison's first JLA arc directed by George Miller
Then for spinoff solo movies get top comic writers to do treatments and find team-player directors whose understanding of the characters aligns with the script
I’ll take 42 days over 0.
I let Snyder have full control.
