Question regarding sexualized comic book characters

Asking as an outsider, did comic books slow down sexualized comic book characters or did it increase. Or was it not that big in the first place. Was a lot of it unintentional (literally everyone is in spandex)

I ask because I just noticed that a lot of the people complaining about it in Video Games and Anime seem to originate from the Comic Book fanbase first, and are more louder there apparently.

Comics seem to have a different context than a work created from scratch since most of these characters have so much history and cooks in the kitchen.

Are there female comic book readers who like or accepting of it? Only time I see them talking about it are feminist blogs claiming "misogyny".

I don't think women read much comic books.

Decrease.

Sexualized characters have been around almost as long as comic books have. For decades comics were regulated to censor them and the reason that started was due to public outcry over the content of comic books, including the sexual content. This sexualization was done very intentionally and covered superheroines as well as jungle girls and whatnot. This was the 40s and 50s we're talking about.

There are female comic readers who don't care and some who even like it. Some fanservicey characters like Witchblade and Lady Death actually have a big female fanbase. The women who were into comics before liked them the way they were. But superhero movies brought a lot of new readers to comics who don't like what they see.

And for what it's worth, in the modern era comics didn't really get the kind of bitching they do now until after Gamergate. It basically came from twitter looking for more shit to fight over when neither side actually cared about comics. So don't blame us for this crap.

It increased drastically in the late 90's as the CCA laxed, but just like ultra violent gore it eventually died down after that initial explosion. This was known as the "bad girl" era where female characters were extremely sexualized to appeal to the market at the time of mostly men between the ages of 13 and 27.

Before that risque visuals were mostly getting crap past the radar since the CCA was very strict on sexual content and DC in particular wanted to maintain a family friendly image.

I swear some of the stuff on Starfire in the comics wouldn't look out of place on Rule34. Even though I think the cartoon version has WAY more porn even today.

With how the internet is now, why both making comics when you can just make porn?

I've had this stupid idea floating around in my head for a Gotham City Sirens ongoing where there's still a plot and stuff but also a lot of uncensored nudity and sexual hijinks. Nothing hardcore though, it'd be an adventure series with cheesecake.

That bad girl era, and the time where most Big 2 heroines got a slutty costume was more in the early to mid 1990s. There aren't many from the late 1990s.
In the 2000s, as Marvel and DC left the CCA, they started to push the envelope further on sex, but 1990s style costumes were rare.

Basically, Twitter destroyed everything good and we're never getting those days back.

Now we live in a world where the only acceptable sexuality in video games and comics is what's in TLOU2.

In games and in comics what you're complaining about is people pushing back against their entertainment getting taken over by agenda-pushing activists and ruined. Eventually something that might seem minor just becomes the straw that broke the camel's back and people can't take any more.

One of the biggest pop-culture lessons to be learned from the last 10 years was "don't ruin people's waifus, they'll fight you to the death", but they keep repeating the same mistakes.

For me it's the 2015 comic run Starfire and the 2003 cartoon Starfire.

With the Sirens, that would be fun. I like this idea.

Does this count as softcore porn?

>Twitter
Worse Comics had the most obsessed faggots to the point that they made entire websites for their bitching
>Women in Fridges
>The Mary Sue
>Escher Girls
and Tumblr pages to spread their faggotry
>The Hawkeye Initiative
Comics had a lot more to POZ it

Isn't Diamond also large reason for the decrease in sexualized comic characters? I think I read that they used their de-facto monopoly to "discourage" the publishers from having those kinds of character designs.

I for one am looking forward to DC super heroines have stripper-tier costumes again.

Will they finally bring her back?

Yes, it has slowed down.
Yes, it was intentional.
No, female comic book fans usually don’t like it. Unless it’s of a man or boy(s), then they fucking LOVE it.

I see Nightwing being beloved often. But thats it.

Which is odd because majority of the characters, like I said, are in skin tight spandex. I do find it odd how out of all the muscley men none of them are liked. Like, do women not like men like that? Is Zig Forums a lie?

I mean Mary Jane, Black Cat and other girls are always going on about Spider-Man and his skin tight suit it's just not as prominent as with Nightwing to the point that it's the number one thing people know/think about him.
Nightwing is the male Power Girl

>Catholic girl with an ab window and bare thighs

It's the little things I miss about the 90s.

>I will never fully comprehend how a society that is so intensely preoccupied with sex is equally cowed by nudity.
Dumb alien hoe. Civilization literally wouldn't exist if women kept showing off their asses while men were doing their jobs. Imagine working an office and all the women are naked. Constant boner, never getting any work done. Married people jealous because everyone gets to see their spouse's genitals. Promiscuity rates rise to 100%. Sex addiction rates rise to 100%. Rape rates rise to 100%. Little kids running around naked, pedophiles having a field day every day. Society would literally collapse.
>"Why hoomans afraid of basic anatomy? Me alien, I no understand."

>Pretending the Sexual Revolution hasn't already decimated the family and that marriages hasn't been on a consistent decline since the 60's
You're the real alien

That's what happens when a teen heartthrob grows up, stays fit, and doesn't become a washed out druggie. He can be a sex symbol.

Kind of annoying how Nightwing having a great ass has become such a meme that's it's acknowledged by the authors. I miss when it was just a fan joke.

I'm not talking about this generation. Civilization existed way before baby boomers in their tight shorty shorts. The generations before them are the ones who built and kept societies alive. If it was up to Starfire, we would still be living in the stone age raping each other's naked asses.

I dunno. Small nods to it here and there can be kinda fun.
