Amanda Seyfried Reflects On Turning Down Gamora In GUARDIANS OF THE GALAXY

>"I think about it often. I'm not really a Marvel movie watcher, which is, I think, why I was just like, 'Ah, I don't wanna be green. It's just so much work.' I remember Jennifer Lawrence talking about once, how long it took her to get blue, and I was like, 'That seems like Hell on earth,' because then you get to set and you're only there for a couple hours, and then you have to take everything off. And that was literally the reason. They tell beautiful stories through superheroes, and my daughter is really obsessed with superheroes now, and part of me wishes I’d done it, but the other part of me thinks ‘I had a life to live and I don’t think I would’ve been happy.'"

Did she make the right choice?

Yes. If you have millions of dollars, another million would mean nothing.

This is why I'll always respect Rebecca Romijn. These days an actress sees a comic book costume glares at the producer, and he'll whither from a potential sexism accusation. "Oh, we're not doing that." Rebecca was on set in pasties and body paint, and she OWNED IT. There will never be another woman like her.

I mean it's better that she rejected it and not the real instead of throwing a hissy fit mid filming or in the sequels about not wanting to put on the make up causing the film director to just suddenly have the actress in her natural skin.

I've done some acting where you have to put on tons of make up and yeah it's a bitch to be there for 8 hours only to film for 2-4 hours and then spend 2 more hours taking it all off.

But it's a commitment and if you're not willing to do it then yeah don't.

Kudos to Olivia Munn too. Someone here mentioned she fought for the costume and read every comic, so I have to give her props for going the extra mile.

For her? Nope. For starters, Jennifer Lawrence (if they were sticking to nude suit Raven) would have a larger paint job. Gamora, Nebula and Ronan? Hands, neck and faces, and occasionally arms and upper torso. Second, Jennifer Lawrence has a reputation for having an allergic reaction and/or being a whiny bitch about the entire affair, so it'd probably be better to do a patch test to make sure you don't piss green. Finally, she would've been in good company as Karen Gillan, Bautista and Lee Pace apparently all accustomed to it well, they just played them music and fed them smoothies while the entire process happened.

I can't believe I used to dislike Karen Gillan, she's actually a really decent actress. Jesus Moffat, you're fucking useless.

>and my daughter is really obsessed with superheroes now

i mean...she could always audition for another character in an upcoming movie.

She was a model right? Models tend to be more open to putting on paint and crazy shit and endure hours with all that shit moreso than actresses.

For the film? Yes. Saldana was the better choice, I can't imagine Seyfried in the same role.

she'd make a good Pavane in a Shang-Chi movie

Models do seem a lot more patient and disciplined. Probably because they're used to contorting and holding poses for perfect shots. A lot of them also do dance or ballet, so the physical artistry is a big part of it for them. Seriously, if I were doing a superhero movie, I'd cast wrestlers for the guys because of the physique and acting experience, and models for the women. Both have a lot of discipline when it comes to physicality too, and often bring good humor with them.

They wanted the costume to be black, she fought for it to be in the comic colors and won. Don't know if she read every comic, but she certainly learned Psylocke's history and lore for the role. Feel sorry for her that none of it was relevant, she just played a henchwoman.

She had a decent presence, at least. It's not her fault she was in a shit movie, but she's definitely the kind of actress I'd want for these roles.

Really question is, why do you care? It's in the past and nothing she does will ever impact you???

Good. That shit IS annoying. Suffering for someone else's art is retarded.

Based

>suffering for someone else's art is annoying

I'm curious to hear your take on method acting.

Honestly though why the scales? Is it so difficult to just Mystique a blue skin red hair character with clothes and without the scales?

>There will never be another woman like her
What about Nebula's actress? She has to wake up at 4am whenever they shoot and spends 4 hours getting the makeup applied and even shaved her head for the role in the first GOTG movie

We'll probably get a full white jumpsuit in the MCU, but something like her comics look would be amazing. They just really wanted to lean into Mystique being a shapeshifter, and to avoid the inevitable discussions about her clothes, so being a nude shapeshifter just cuts right to the chase. The scales just lean into her "otherness" and being a mutant and give a handy place to hide pasties.

I love Karen. She seems like a lovely person, and she is a trooper. But there is a world of difference between a naked Mystique and Nebula. Though Karen probably has her own challenges acting with CG'd prosthetics and actual ones.

disney is bad

>Honestly though why the scales?
They wanted to make it more than just some redhead with blue skin. Instead of actually shapeshifting, she's like a humanoid chameleon with next level camouflage. I personally think it was a great change. To add some kind of anatomic/physiological reasoning to it beyond just "lol she shapeshifts". I appreciate the extra effort.

Seriously? Because I very much get the impression Fox just wanted to show off tome T&A with Romijn

T&A doesn't mean it's devoid of meaning. And it says a lot about Mystique's character in a way that was paid the barest of lip service by Jennifer Lawrence's portrayal. She was "Mutant and proud". A Leopard need not hide it's spots. Merely becomes one with the jungle. And her very body language was sensual and compelling. The T&A may have been the primary consideration, but it wasn't lacking in merit.

it's definitely her fault

Only as much as she agreed to get paid for.

Uwe Bowel got away with casting prostitutes so why not?

Pretty sure that was just so he could have prostitutes. Which, if I could get away with it I totally would.

Also I think for filming purposes, costumes with raised textures show up better and more distinguished in movies rather than textureless spandex. Almost every super hero movie production uses creative ways to add texture to super hero costumes.

Seyfried is, in my opinion, one of the top three most beautiful actresses working today, but I don't think she would have made a particularly good Marvel character, especially if she wasn't into the role on the first place.

Who cares? none of them would wear the Gamora classic suit

Attached: 00_3.jpg (393x586, 48.68K)

she also thought it was a bigger part.
she turned down Morena Baccarin's part in Deadpool to be Psylocke.

its a latex they use, you can develop latex allergies due to repeated contact

you will NEVER see this suit in a movie

I hope one day they choose actresses who have the desire to have fun and do not choose those who only want the check

So, they removed her costume and her personality just to make it more tolerable and acceptable to the MCU standard, while the other green was totally naked in Ragnarok
