I agree with this. He's a hot character but I really care more about his abilities and his personal growth and strength. Seeing him be a great leader/mentor/friend/older brother is far more appealing to me than seeing him date around or with-they-won't-they with Batgirl. To me, that's part of what makes him hot; he's genuinely a good dude.

I agree that Babs is about the only woman Dick will simp for, but that's not what's happening in this panel. Dick just got out of a long term relationship and doesn't feel comfortable sharing the bed with Babs, even though she offered. He's the one who is emotionally unavailable.

It's been awhile, but he basically shows up after everyone has long thought him dead - it's set during or right around the end of Grayson - and is like "Surprise, not dead! Let's hookup."

Oh yeah. Fuck, I hated that issue. It's like the Batgirl writers had to make Dick look as awful as possible to make Luke look better.

It also completely contradicted how he acted toward Babs in his own title, which, yeah, he felt awful for faking his death and manipulating his friends and family. I think the writers on Batgirl just wanted to throw some drama into the Luke/Babs romance or something.

I've had a fair level of intimacy with some of my friends before, but I would still assume that if you strip down to pjs/underwear, crawl into bed, and talk about your feelings it's well beyond the friend stage. If these were real people I'd assume they were both trying to get the other person to make the first move, but as written - and in context of everything else since - it really felt more like editorial going "put the ship back on the table."

It just screams emotional insecurity to me. They'll never commit, or the timing is always off, but they'll still "be there for each other", which usually means she calls and he comes running. He's that "Guy Friend" she'll be on the phone with whenever she gets a boyfriend. The one always waiting in the wings. And that goes the other way too. If their relationship were more platonic, it might work, but there's too much history and/or subtext there.

It was a really terrible issue, but I'm kinda glad for it sinking the Dickbabs ship for so long. Post-Flashpoint Dickbabs just doesn't work, and them being a "missed connection" gives their relationship an interesting dynamic - something that has been lacking between the two since 2011.

Probably the worst thing is that Luke only had something like 10 appearances in Batgirl, him and Babs' dating had little lead-in and was dropped fast, and if they wanted drama they needed for Luke and Dick to interact as well.
