I don't get why Moore seems to hate that people sympathize with Rorschach. The guy is the most pitiable character in the comic, it's hard not to feel bad for him.

Maybe, but the more that I think about it the more I realize it's mostly just the results of a stunted understanding of socialization from a young age, he definitely has a natural knack into understanding and reading others but he's just really damaged and angry

He hates the diehard fanboys who miss the point of what his character was about, instead idolizing him as a righteous hero.

But sociopaths are still able to feel empathy. They're not like psychopaths, they are kinda immature and social inepts, they commit crimes because they think they can get away with it. Rorschach kills criminals in horrible ways but he does that for what he thinks are the right reasons. In this scene he felt empathy for the kids because they've reminded him of himself.
