He was in season 1. In season 2, his motivations pretty much devolved into 'I like this boy'. The idea is to have him spend some quality time with his LI, replacing him with 1 or both of the twins, shaking up the group dynamics and giving everyone some much needed development.

Because he's not a good character. As a gay guy I dislike seeing lazily written characters who are gay. If you want people to be okay with gay characters then make their character fun and interesting. Not bland and unoffensive.
And don't shove in poorly written romance garbage. People already dislike poorly written straight romance, so why would people care for a forced gay one.
