can you post the top ten comics of that point? want to see if any of them holds up to this day.

What was Green Lantern by Marz like?
Was that Kyle?

I m looking for it but my guess of the top 3 is
1 Spawn
2 Uncanny Xmen
3 Gen 13

Yeah that was Kyle in his second year in the book

I don't know how to feel about young Ennis.

He was 26 here. Young and hip

Ennis looks liked he lived full time in a pub

I thought Moore would be there too, since he had won the Eisner for best writer third time in a row, and was writing for Image too.

why are they all so ugly

Like that image says it was done by polling the retailers nationwide, so their answers on what's popular really would be what's popular, which explains why Scott Lobdell is on that list and Moore isn't. The X-Men stuff still consistently sold well, which explains Lobdell's popularity. Moore meanwhile was still doing From Hell which most mainstream readers hadn't read yet, and he was writing Image stuff that was a far cry from his 80's stuff or From Hell or Supreme or the ABC line.

He was still writing Supreme in 96.

I love all these artists but don't know Linsner

Creator of Dawn, a fantasy character which only has a few mini series here and there.

hard to believe that people thought gen13 would be a long-runner.
he paints his comics so that would take more time than usual right?

I don't think Moore had had a real top seller in a while when this was done. What was Grant Morrison doing in 96? Invisibles hadn't started yet, had it? So probably just minor Image stuff?

he looks like he hangs around outside shops and asks people what they're looking at

He's been doing covers for Dynamite books the past few years (Vampirella, Red Sonja, etc.)

He's a great "good girl" artist. If you like well drawn girls with nice tits etc.

His Doom Patrol had ended way before this, and he was writing some one shots and minis for Vertigo(including his Flex Mentallo). His JLA would start at the end of 96.

JLA did become a hot pick, at least. So did Starman, but it was a dark horse at this point

The first volume of The Invisibles was going on at the time but its sales weren't that good after a while hence wankathon.
Aztek would also come out a few months later.

looks like a proper lad

Ennis looks exactly like a Steve Dillon drawing
Peter David looks like what people think when they think "comic book writer."

That artist list is based
I wonder what such a list would look like today.

With twitter and facebook it shouldnt be too hard to make such a list

Oh, THAT comic. I remember seeing posters of her on ever comicbook shop back then but I've never actually seen the comic anywhere. Is it good?

Man, Joe Madureira's art WAS 90's X-Men to me.

Like, it definitely doesn't work now but at the time it was just perfect.

>Peter David

Hell yeah

His art is pretty amazing, especially when he colors too. The story is pretty balls but everybody should read the first mini anyway just for the art alone.

>Like, it definitely doesn't work now but at the time it was just perfect.

Why not? There are worse weeb artists working today.

Oh without a doubt, there are terrible artists now, but also just is work doesn't hit the same as it once did.

The last one I can think of is Inhuman, and it just feels... off.

Even his Ultimates stuff didn't hit the same, but maybe that was the fault of the coloring.

Either 1996 was a bad year for comics or Wizard magazine was a pile of horseshit.

Is mark waid severely autistic? He looks like it

It was very often transactional and political.

Yes and it's no secret.

Was this just around the time McFarlane stopped drawing Spawn himself? Because it’s weird he’d be #1 and then Capullo is #9 with Spawn also.

Jim Lee wasn't even doing a monthly when this was published either. There was still a misguided belief that they would eventually stick to their creations, but we all know how that turned out.

Yeah I think the book was bimonthly at that time and Capullo and Tony Daniel were each doing an issue a month. Or it was about that time. McFarlane wasn't even doing covers I don't think

Someone post that article about Waid making a fuss every morning in his office.

Was Todd still drawing Spawn in 1996? Kingdom Come and Bachalo's Generation X are both listed as 'upcoming', weren't they earlier than 1996?

>Someone post that article about Waid making a fuss every morning in his office.
Or his meltdown while watching Man of Steel.

>hard to believe that people thought gen13 would be a long-runner.
It was.

He looks like Costanza.

He's like a bitter Randal.
