I think Casagrandes took Loud House's earlier season concept; where Ronnie Anne is the straight character playing to her wacky family antics.

Meanwhile, LH is now everyone's show, Lincoln is another kid in the house (The typical boy), so the chaotic nature and the "big family issues" play a lot less. As you said, it really depends on what character they're playing. Latest Lucy ep was great, another of the Lincoln & Lana did not.

It also helps CG has a more interesting setting (The city), and several supporting characters not limited to only school friends.
(Ronnie Anne being a tomboy also helps to some interesting plots)

That's been the biggest disappointment about the show; the Louds are no longer an extraordinary family. "How does an average boy survive in a house with ten off-the-wall sisters? Who cares! Now let's see what goth sister is doing. What a surprise, she's not-so goth!"
