I don't mind either retcon but Ion being a whale to represent the first living creature moving was stupid. Also Earth being the first planet to have life is stupid for a number of reasons. Earth doesn't have to be the center of everything and a good sci fi writer would know this.

Well it turned out that Earth housed the life entity which is why the Guardians were so intent on keeping it safe while also trying not to let everyone know that Earth was hiding something. It at least explains the emphasis on Earth.
