That's it.

v for vendetta but honestly I haven't read enough to recommend any.

it's essential you realize they're comic books

I realize they are, I just want something to read with nice art and was hoping someone could reccomended me something.

The Fade Out
We3

they're not essential but I'll always put in
a rec for kerascoëts books

O'Neal's Question run. You can catch it in the archives atm. And funny enough the Life and Times of Scrooge McDuck is also essential.

The Strange Talents of Luther Strode + it's two sequels to get the full story.

If you are still childish enough to use term "graphic novel", then you haven't really read Watchmen.

Christ, you are a pretentious fucking asshole, suck a dick.

That's just what they're commonly referred to so that's why I used it

The Sandman, Morrison’s run on Doom Patrol.

The Life and Times of Scrooge McDuck.

The essential babby's first big two comics list:

Watchmen
The Dark Knight Returns
Spider-Man Blue
The Long Halloween
Superman for All Seasons
All-Star Superman
Batman Year One

You mean "required reading"? No such thing in comics, man. Alan Moore & co get a lot of discussion, sure, but a ton of truly great comics don't get mentioned as much just because there's not much to say except for people agreeing that they're good. (No heavyhanded political commentary etc.)

For comics with outstanding art, Enrique Fernandez (pic related) is fucking awesome. There are a lot of good indie guys out there, but off the top of my head, he really stands out.

Winsor McCay's Little Nemo was a newspaper comic, but each installment was a full-size Sunday page. It's fantastic.

I'm just getting into Philippe Druillet, and his artwork is a goddamn treat.

For God's sakes the fucker wants to look at pretty pictures, least you can do is post pictures to prove you got good taste.

The art objectively peaked when cowboy man showed up. The rest is still good, but hot damn did they put their a game on when he was on the page.

>Akira
Bit of shit for everyone in there

This

This. Find out what you like and what you don't like. The big 3 are Watchmen, Dark Knight Returns and Maus. Those are kind of the Citizen Kane/Casablanca/Godfather trifecta, but it doesn't mean you'll necessarily love them, just that those are the big important ones.

You might want to explain what "big 2" means to a noob. Also, that's a lot of Jeph Loeb. :\

OP, do you like horror/superheroes/crime/romance/slice of life/comedy/teen drama/historical? None of these? All of these? Our operators are standing by.

aka Scrooge McDuck: Grand Design

And yes it is perfection

>Ditko Spider-Man, aka Amazing Spider-Man 1-38 from the 60s, aka the best superhero comic you can buy

Johnny the Homicidal Maniac

A Contract with god

I was gonna recommend Love and Rockets, specifically Jaime Hernandez's parts for the precise line work, but the latest in the series just leaves me feeling empty and adrift these days. Guess that's how old punks are meant to feel.

The Death and Return of Superman is supposed to be good, but I haven't read it.
