I am from Russia and interested to know if you watched something from modern russian animation movies/series?
In our country we have a rather controversial issue with animation, and that’s why I want to know if people in other countries know anything from modern russian cartoons. :)
I really like the three boyatyrs, has a lot of jokes you dont see in western animation anymore.
I would like to watch more russian animation but it's really hard to find subtitles for them.

the ussr produced better toons. I liked We Can't Live Without Cosmos though.

Sometimes I feel they play it safer than americans, and the quality of the final products get affected by that.

i LOVE old soviet stuff like baseduzmultfilm and such. insane amounts of great designs and animation work
Anthony Gray

I have only watched Snow Queen but I am interested in mire animated projects, what do you suggest, user?

I'd rather kill myself than watch anything from that shithole

That’s absolutely true. Our animation studios are very afraid of experiments, because if a new project does not pay off, then the money is considered wasted.
I can give an example - a studio that existed since the USSR, Basedzmultfilm. Now this studio lives only on reboots of old projects, who do not need changes, because they already have been perfect. All new project were canceled be due lack of money (and this is absolutely a lie, because studio funded by government itself).
Of course, we have experiment animation cartoons. 2D traditional animated movie named “Ginger’s Tale” for example. In modern animation it’s a rarity one.

S o y z multfilm, idk why it’s changing...
Justin Mitchell
because "s o y" changes to "based". i dont have any problem with calling s o y uzmultfilm based, tho
All projects from studio Parovoz is good, indeed. I like Fairytale Patrol, Leo and Tig. :)

honestly I don't really get the impression there's much room for creativity in the russian federation, is this largely a product of having previously been the ussr?
Christian Scott
As I said earlier: in our country they are afraid that the project may not pay off. Plus a crisis of ideas.

There are a couple of webseries that may fit your bill, but most of them aren't translated.
"Masyanya" - slice-of-life about a young woman and her friends, being made by one guy since 2001. A few eps have been fansubbed and there's a handful of silent ones. youtube.com/watch?v=NkrrlxCniCs
"Mythological Mythology" - a brutally honest look at aspects of life like power, religion, patriotism etc. Unfortunately I can't find any translation, which is a shame, because the writing is killing it. youtube.com/watch?v=hiAimdhSbZY
What was that one show about a dude and a couple of kids in a well-known clock tower/other kind of tower? IIRC it was based on some old Russian stories/books. An user was trying to sub it way way way back, years ago.
They are solid. They won't necessarily impress you, but I thought they were comfy. For movie 1, they stick closer to the actual Snow Queen tale than Frozen did, but take their own liberties. The later movies build on the things they established that weren't in the original tale. The budget of the movies aren't that high, so don't go in expecting super impressive visuals(the first movie had a 7 million dollar budget).
