So one story from decades ago nobody ever really talks about is anymore meaningful than the potential that Alan as a gay character can bring to the table in the future? One could argue that Alan as positive gay character from the 40s will actually produce more good than one isolated story where a boomer decides to accept his gay son, since that's just a story you can only tell once.
