People talk about comics and cartoons needing more representation.

Honest question, not baiting, can comics or cartoons actually make people less racist or LGBTQphobic?

You'd need to ask someone with a degree in a relevant field for that, not some random shitheads who post on Zig Forums

Yes and no. The whole point of representation is normalization, so if kids go to school and they don’t see a BLACK person, and just see a person. And same goes for all the other races/sex stuff. That’s literally it, it’s basically propaganda, but then again what isn’t? It does work to a extent but it’s not like some racist is gonna read static shock and stop being racist, it’s more so to get the younger generation to not be racist pricks. Although the key factor in that is parental upbringing in general/ the kid not being a retard

Has a comic or cartoon ever made someone here less hateful then? Has anyone seen it happen?

If you force feed someone cum long enough, I am sure they will eventually find it a delicacy

if they can, I imagine it's done by "representating" all kinds of people as normal and truly equal. and that includes equally making lgbt characters and people of poc suffer, have flaws and be made fun of just as much as the white straight cis lads. othering them by calling attention to their very existence as something noteworthy or deserving of s schlongsuckling and putting them on a pedestal sure as hell ain't it

That's my fetish

Superman is widely credited with taking down the Klan (or rather, making it socially unacceptable to be a Klan member), so I'm gonna say yes. Of course, that was radio Supes, but I don't think it's unreasonable to guess that if a superhero radio show can make that kind of change, so can a superhero cartoon.

I used to be biased against Middle Eastern people.
Now my gf looks like a 5 years older Kamala Khan. Don’t think it’s connected though. But I do like her as a character.

Maybe a white kid who may have otherwise grown up racist thinks Sam Wilson or T’Challa is cool? Idk

If anything they make them hate these people more, It is amazing how cucked America is now, they banned the MJ episode of the Simpsons from Disney plus/ TV and any kind of home media or streaming release, They removed Splash Mountain, They cancelled Cops, They Removed Apu from the Simpsons, They are editing the "racist" jokes from Family guy reruns, And all of this because people are breaking the law? It doesn't seem right, it makes America look weak and afraid of everything.

Let's not forget this.

If someone was a violent racist and then read a comic/watched a show and did a complete 180, would you consider them a retard? To me it’s like you made this generalized hate part of your identity for x years but it takes something so benign to change you, makes you a completely fuck wit because it shows not once in those x years have you ever put any critical thought or self reflection on your hate

Absolutely. That's why they're so important.

Yes. In fact, a lot of my values during my formative years came from comics as my parents didn't bother raising me and I was desperate for guidance.

We think you’re cucked because of conservatives, m8
You probably think liberals are “leftists”

Same could be said for becoming racist in the first place. People are simpletons, guided by whims.

seems like itd be moreso something that happens when your a kid and your brain is squishy and receptive to change

>You probably think liberals are “leftists”
see I realize what you were attempting to say but... nonetheless that's p funny

Nothing will make someone less racist, sexist, or LGBTQphobic other than their own capacity to chose.

It's my supervillain backstory

True, but usually they’re raised that way. It’s not excuse either way

>a woman of color will never force you to accept diversity by force

Why live

Yeah the strongest conclusions are the ones you reach on your own. Which is why a favorite tactic of manipulators is to make you think you reached it by yourself when in fact they made very other option unthinkable.

>It doesn't seem right, it makes America look weak and afraid of everything.
Because they are. Everybody's afraid of offending somebody, nowadays.

Ok Satan.

Sad but true.

Yes, because you never know when someone's going to go on a killing spree. Best keep your name off that list.

>it makes America look weak and afraid of everything.

America has been in decline for decades by this point. Too bad that the only realistic replacement for it is the world's leading exporter of new diseases and shoddy knock-offs.

I think so, if it can make readers rexamine their moral epistemology and biases
Literal funded philosophy paper forthcoming, please kill me
Its embarrassing to admit but I grew up not seeing many black people so they kinda freaked me out. Partially due to comic books and partially due to RL stuff I became a lot more used to the idea of
them so I think yes.

Agreed, EU comics are the worst.

He’ll find no insight from the ideologues masquerading as social “scientists”. Their interest is not in truth seeking, but activism.

Experts bad, whims good

cartoons need more representation of ancient Egyptian girls with huge tits and nice round asses

This.
Opposite. Made me afraid to make friends with girls because of the bitch "prep" types and hung out with mostly boys. When I got to high school, turns out there weren't any but I had gotten so used to having guy friends and watching shows boys like, I didn't connect to any girls. Girls were "weak" and being girly was "bad." When I became a young adult, I realized I missed out on a lot of feminine things I actually liked and couldn't share them with my guy friends. As an adult I've made strides to connect with other girls more and found them not to be the bitches TV told me they were.

I have or at least had a complex about hijabs due to my upbringing and short renouncing of my religon. At the start I hated hijabs and everything they stand for, but after a while of divorcing myself from them and seeing cute hijabi girls and cool hijab designs in cartoons and art i began to feel more comfortable with them.
Ill still feel rage if a relative tells me to wear one though.

Politically captured experts? Yes. Look up Lysenkoism to see this phenomenon in action.

Not everyone is obsessed with politics like you are. Why do you let other people guide your thoughts, anyway? Can't think on your own?

Good rule of thumb? The less math required in a supposed scientific field of study, the more likely it is to be made up of complete trite bullshit. Sociology, Psychology etc. are guilty of this.

>LGBTQphobic
How about using actual words?

no because propaganda doesn't work

What? I struggle to interpret this as anything but a non-sequitur.

It's never enough, it will never be enough. This is a group of people who thrive on complaining or being a victim. Besides, comics are diverse as fuck, especially in recent years, but casuals don't know that.

Only a fool would consider information bad. You can't break everything down into a formula, it's not possible until we chart out the human brain.
