ITT: Interesting Gems redesings
This thread has my support.
The Gems are definitely an interesting alien race in concept.
Especially with things like corruption and whatnot.
I wish there was a little more fleshing out of how things work.
It is pretty interesting to put them in different universes or situations and see how it would turn out.
Despite them being emotionally stunted and kind of dumb they are a force to be reckoned with.
I still remember that one thread about putting the Gem Empire in the 40K universe thinking about how that would work.
Funny enough being put in a grimdark setting will either crush the Gems easily or turn them into a force to be reckoned with.
>Dude what if we made this kid show into body horror!!!
Fuck off.
god dammit all this pilot artstyle what-ifs makes me nostalgic for something that never happened. it hurts.
I wonder how they would fair against the Irken Empire in Invader Zim. We did see they already have a crystal-like species under their rule that participate in training.
Blue having dark hair would've made way more sense.
>>Dude what if we made this kid show into body horror!!!
Did you even watch the show?
Gems and Orks sounds like a Wild Matchup.
Hell any 40K faction seems to be a neat matchup for the Gems in some way.
>Kill them and they turn into shiny loot
>Leave them alone long enough and they'll come back
The orks would love fighting them Crystal Gitz
That's unsettling and quite alien.
The Gems just aren't specified enough to really work with anything.
They're like ants more than anything. Rebecca explicitly referred to them as solar-powered robots in a (somewhat) recent interview
The 40k problem remains that most of their technology and universal rules only work in their own universe. With home universe advantage they always win, without it they almost always lose.
Space Marines would literally just die in another universe since their internal organs work on Warp power. Almost no ships work since nobody has true FTL outside of using the Warp. Ork tech all stops working, Tyranids can’t communicate and destroy each other, and so on.
I love it.
An user also started writing an AU on it. I liked their idea for Peridot, that they go into sleep mode or find other tasks without constant input/output and it creeps out/saddens Steven so he gets her hooked on Camp Pines and being in a fandom to keep her active and doing her own thing.
>kid show
>features homosexuality prominently
I see no problem with it if it's creative.
I love how they have the potential to be adorable but also terrifying.
So does Sailor Moon, Pokemon, Beast Wars in Japan, Ramna 1/2, Dragonball implied it from time to time, a lot of kids stuff from the 70’s featuring people in costumes, I’m pretty sure George’s robot coworker in The Jetsons was gay, obligatory He-man joke here, Snagglepuss and Huckleberry Hound are both flamboyant and based heavily on gay celebrities of the time, Static Shock’s white sidekick was gay, I’m sure there’s more I’m forgetting.
Is there a link to that AU?
I wish that they had actually had to confront Malachite underwater at least once.
Alexandrite and Obsidian being nightmare fuel bruisers that even humans see as beautiful and inspiring is a great way of showing how used to Gems humans are in their universe. Connie’s mother is a fucking doctor and treats Steven’s “mother” being like 25 feet tall as just strange and a giant hand monster covered in smaller hands as concerning only in that it has no heartbeat.
Naw. An user just said they were going to write some stuff. I never saw any more of it, and have no idea where you could find it.
